The Airfix Buccaneer is a product of its time and this is all too obvious when looking at the cockpit. The new cockpit on my model was based on photographs of surviving examples, detailing the seats took up a lot of time and this was very much a matter of repeated steps consisting of a little work followed by a lot of waiting as glue and paint dried before continuing. The panels were made from balsawood with painted details.

Some of this waiting time was usefully filled by assembling, cleaning up and re-engraving these parts.

with the cockpit finished the fuselage was glued together tonight before keying these words.

Great work on the cockpit. I especially like the seats.

You wouldn't think that was the same kit as I've just finished!
Great work on adding the extra and frankly much needed details!
Best wishes

The fuselage panel lines were then engraved and the wheel wells were detailed.
Image

Assembly began with the wings, nose and tail, there were steps in the joints of the nose and tail pieces and these were smoothed over with filler.
Image

The last airframe parts were then fitted and the model was then masked and primed.

No, even with the two day extension this will be a DNF- but certainly a DNF that will be finished this week.

The panel lines and control surfaces were airbrushed over to give some contrast through the paint.
Image

The airframe was then airbrushed in my own mix of Desert Pink, this was too opaque and swallowed up all the shading lines, luckily the second coat did did leave a convincing patchy effect to represent the weathering of the sand and sun.
Image

The model was then gloss varnished, the decals were applied, wheel wells painted, stores and windscreens fitted.
Image

The airframe was then matt varnished and weathered and the undercarriage and canopy were fitted to complete the model.
