MDT taking one for the (other) team

Post by MDT »

I'm going into battle with ICM MiG-25. Looks as much of beast to build as the real thing...
Just found an RF-5E in the loft I forgot about as a back up although that looks an interesting build too!

Either would be good but I am intrigued by the Mig-25.

As advertised, the ICM MiG-25 -

Sprues of finely detailed parts, of which this detail will probably disappear under the mountains of filler required!

The clear parts are reasonably thin but have no detail on them so masking the framing will be interesting...

The Iraqi Air Force option -

This is the first time I've submitted pictures from an DSLR camera so hopefully image quality will improve through this project!

Spent a couple of hours 'carving' out parts from the flash etc - I ignored the kit instructions and started with what looks the most challenging section of construction - the main fuselage 'box' section -

Image

Finally cemented some parts!

Really unsure how the main undercarriage fits onto the wheel well as the instructions aren't exactly clear...

What is that? The fuselage comes with a top, bottom and two sides? Weird.

T'is a fair old chunk of plastic. Hope all those fuselage seems don't cause you trouble Matt. Worth doing a bit of fettling to get a good fit.

It looks more like a wardrobe at this stage...
There is an attempt at some fettling but I feel a lump (or tube!) of filler or two is still going to be required! In terms of bad fit and complexity this reminds me of the construction of the Airfix TSR.2 I'm still battling through.

Dangerous move, I hope you gave up an offering to the Modeling Gods first to appease them.

A few hours of progress...
Image
Fit has been bad so far even after a bit of fettling...nothing unexpected though.

I've been lucky that Hannants stock Pavla canopies as I've had a disaster trying to tint the kit one...will put the cockpit completion on hold but its not as though I have't got plenty else to be getting on with.

Nice progress but looks a bit un-aerodynamic so far.

Looking on the brightside, the nose may not be too good a fit but at least it's looking less like a wardrobe now!

I have the same nose related issues on my buccaneer!
Best wishes

Cheers it's progress of sorts! I remember the same fun with the Airfix brick, they really need to release a new one.
