That's a shame.

I used to just buy it at our local supermarket. I still have tons left in the bottle I bought years ago when it was called 'Future' here (sorry, the US Postal Service won't let me send you any). Isn't it sold in supermarkets in UK?

Not the original formula. Apparently the new version is not to be trusted (although I've not used either kind!)
Best wishes

The moment of truth!.....I've given the remaining decals a couple of coats of varnish to try to stop them shattering. I'm going in now!

I have tried klear to seal decals before but never had much success with it. I now rely on Humbrol Acrylic Varnish for all my old dodgy decals.

It was Humbrol acrylic varnish that I used but the two small decals I've tried so far have broken up. Another couple of coats methinks, although they are mostly grey coloured and already losing their contrast against the a/c colour.
I'll slap some more varnish on them and see how it goes. It's too late now to send off for more aftermarket decals and none of the kits that I can just pick up from my LMS have a Desert Storm decal option.
Ho hum! At least I've got my SLUF to restore my joie de vivre

Sorry to hear that, PT. Maybe you should wait for something better to coat them. I find Microscale Liquid Decal Film works best for me.

Well, the coating the decals with varnish didn't work. The dark grey ones that are actually sticking are faded to the point of being almost indistinguishable from the a/c paint and the black ones have a milky white sheen. The red decals are worse, they're crusting like scabs and refusing to adhere.

Plan B - To buy another A-6 kit with Desert storm decals and use them - No joy in shops, and no time left to order.

Plan C- to see if I could cobble together enough generic number and markings decals to pass muster if I hand drew the 'Black Falcons' badge on the tail. - Not looking hopeful so far as most of my spares are high vis '60s ones, Scooters and SLUFs with 3xx and 4xx buzz numbers. :frown:

That's a huge shame PT; I've enjoyed watching this build and I hope that you'll source some replacements in time and get 'em stuck on so we can see the finished article sometime soon
Best wishes

A pity, PT. A valiant attempt finally thwarted by dastardly deficient decals. You deserve better results given your tenacity in trying to get this done in time.

Take your time to do it justice after the GB and post us pics when you're done.

Ha! To paraphrase Mark Twain, 'Reports of my DNF have been greatly exaggerated!"
I scraped off the duff decals and although I couldn't find any appropriate Intruder markings, I found just enough correct sized lo-vis stars 'n' bars, 'Navy' decals and assorted numbers to do the job ....and seeing as You know who wouldn't come to the mountain, Squadron marking-wise, the mountain came to you know who....I just hand drew the mock-oriental 'AC' Airwing codes and lining, and the Sunday Punchers Squadron badge on the tail. I had to take off the wheels and pylons to do it, but I can get them back on by this time tomorrow.

Skipper, you said a 2 day extension. Seeing as the GB was until 28 Feb and normally that would mean an extension to March 2nd. that means I still have tomorrow, right? :-D
