Brickie's Mirage 2000 *Fini*

Post by Brickie »

OK, so we have the Tamiya boxing of the Italeri kit of the Mirage 2000, which Scalemates informs me dates back to 1994. I've built another in this series, the MiG-29, which went together nicely, so I'm looking forward to this build.

Image

Instructions solely in Japanese, but this wasn't a problem before and I don't think it ought to be this time either. Colour callouts are all in Tamiya, which is great as that's what I generally use anyway.

There are plenty of sprue shots out there on t'internet so there's no need for more.

I have the Decals Carpena / Colorado sheet 72.54 of which I'll be doing 5-OB, of Escadrille 2/5 "Ile de France", as seen here on Wings Palette

I'm confused (it happens easily) but are you doing a C or a B? That profile of 5-OB is a B.

Though I notice that the 5-OB on the Wings Pallette image there is a two-seater 2000B from 2005, rather than the single-seater 2000C that served in Iraq.

Finally getting round to an update...

We have a cockpit. Pretty basic, and if I'd thought about it I'd have shelled out the pittance for an Eduard Zoom set - certainly recommended for anyone else tackling this kit. Filled the nose with Liquid Gravity.

Image

Seems the LG was ever so slightly proud, so there's a slight gap in my nosecone. Filler ho!

Image

And adding the wings. The single-piece lower wing fits like a glove; the upper wings need a little filler, but not too much.

And with the shock cones now added (not pictured) that's main assembly done and we're off to the paint shop.

It look great so far; it really is a nice looking aircraft and I'm puzzled why I've not built one yet!
Best wishes

Brickie,

Got those upper wing root seams done yet? I've been using Perfect Plastic Putty on mine - worked a treat.

Brickie, any updates for us on this one, please? Mirages are such gorgeous looking aeroplanes.

The world is conspiring, conspiring I tell you!

I came to start painting, promptly lost the nozzle from my airbrush when I dropped it and it bounced once and disappeared into a black hole. While looking, I knocked the airbrush off the table, it landed on its nose and bent the needle.

To eBay to order both parts ... from china ...

They appear, I promptly discover I've run out of pipettes. Back to eBay.

Finally, yesterday evening, I sit down to start spraying, get the base coat on and ... Power cut!

However, I've managed to get some done this morning and may even manage to finish to an acceptable standard by the end of the weekend!

Photos to follow...

The glue on the u/c struts and flaps is drying at the moment, then it's time for decalling...

State of play. Cat for scale.

I'm about to start attempting to put the long, thin strips on the wings that mark out "no step" areas. This'll be fun.

My God - the cat looks huge!!! Certainly dwarfs that Mirage 2000 (which looks terrific, BTW).
