Last but One and Last but Two: F45 & FR46 *BOTH FINISHED*

Honoring Edgar Brooks, a Spitfire researcher and contributor to many modelling forums, we have the Every Mark of Spitfire GB -- in which at least one of each will be built, not in a free-for-all, but to a "plan".
The GB runs from 27 Feb 2016 to 10 April and your host are Martin R and Sir T.

Tailectomy completed. Actually two of them as I decided to do the F45 too. Here's the last pic that shows all their mongrel attributes before they get primed.

F46 - Hawk F22 fuselage and wing, Pegasus F22 fin, Special Hobby tailplanes and rudder courtesy of PurpleThistle.

Hopefully priming won't reveal too many flaws needing attention.

They are both primed now and I have had several rounds of PSR trying to smooth out the wing roots and some intransigent seams. I also decided I should do something about the somewhat undersized wheel blisters on the upper wings from the Hawk kits. Not sure how this will end up but here's first attempt which is now drying. It's paper cut to shape, pressed down over the existing bulges then removed and attached with lavish helpings of white glue. I've just primed it here and shown the original wing (on the left) for comparison. It seems to have worked but it may take a few more coats to stop paint seeping into the paper when the colour coats go on.

Image

It's funny how I'll get fixated on 'having to' correct something like that when the kits are so old and basic in the first place and other things, like no wheel wells, don't bother me.!!

David

PS - I also updated thread title to reflect an F46 instead of the original FR46 planned.

I love it when people are so resourceful, that old school paper and PVA glue trick, is right up my street. Youngsters today with their shake and bake kits, don't know what they are missing. :-D

Keep up the great work David you will soon have these old kits knocked into shape.
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

Great work David! And I agree with Splash - great idea using paper and PVA glue. I've never heard of that one before!

Well, now everybody has got their "Monty Python" wannabee moments out of the way, back to our regularly scheduled programme already in (slow) progress.

I am using Tamiya XF-21 for the sky but it was WAY too dark. Even after adding a ton (no I didn't measure it) of white and airbrushing the two Seafires, I am still thinking it's too dark.

Here they are in the paint shop.

Nice contrast of fins/rudders.

Oh no, David! This is just Special Hobby kit. I see on your build and earlier how Splash make Seafire XV from Frog Spitfire XIV and make proposition for one producer for enlarge assortment - from Spit14 make Seafire 15 with only one new detail, but learned that I was wrong.
Image
top - SWORD Seafire XV fuselage
Image
And then make "corrections" in original instruction leaflet.
Image
But who will cut and reduce fuselage? Project cancelled. And here I seen your Mk.45  but no more propositions for..))) Sorry for flood.

I am beginning to understand that Splash was right about paint the grey first then mask it and paint the sky. The masking on the F45 is turning out to be a challenge!!
