Lancfan's Spitfire III ***Finished***
Things are moving along very well so I will build a mark III as a fourth model using this old tool Airfix mark I kit (with a little help from my spares box).

I've always liked the look of the Mk.III.

Re: Lancfan's Spitfire III
Work began by adding car filler to the rear fuselage, this will make a firm base for the retractable tailwheel.
The cockpit interior was then painted and the fuselage halves were then joined together. the next stage was to form a pattern for the modified windscreen using more car filler so that this can be vac formed later.
The wing was now assembled and is shown here with the fuselage and cockpit floor.
The wing was then modified and the nose corrected to suit the mark III.

Re: Lancfan's Spitfire III
The next step was to assemble the airframe, fit the canopy (sans windscreen) and mould and fit the modified windscreen. The wing bulges came from spare AZ parts, the radiator was cut from an Heller mark XVI wing and the oil cooler was made from a piece of sprue, the wheel bays were filled and shaped with plasticene and the engine bulges were made from car filler.
The model was then primed, on checking pictures of the full size I realised that the engine bulges were still too small so these were enlarged with yet more car filler before starting to paint the model.
Painting began with white (four coats), then yellow (five coats) and finally with just the one coat of black.
The model was now almost complete, a coat of gloss varnish was followed by applying the decals, matt varnishing over them and then fitting the last parts to finish the model.

Now I have put on my sun glasses and turned the brightness down on my screen, I can see what a brilliant job you have done. The yellow suits the Spitfire.
