Got the seat and the floor done yesterday, not much else done as I have a cold. Annoyingly. At least I can't smell the glue..

It's just clearing up today, won't go into details but it's nose related now. Sniff.

Finally got something done today, also remembered to put the engine fan in!, unlike with the Airfix GR.1 when I forgot!. Had to make some impromptu engine covers. Anyway, here's progress, not much but we're getting on now the Whirlwind for the 10th Anniversary GB is done.

I also have the Freightdog Models 'corrected fin' to replace the kit one. Apparently Airfix forgot to add an little extra height for the RWR receiver being added. The kit tail and the resin one are differing heights.

I was surprised when I built the NT Airfix GR3 that they had made such a boob, with the height of the tail, its good that companies like Freight Dog jump to the challenge and bring out correction sets.

Can you please photograph the Airfix tail next to the Freight Dog tail so we can see the difference.

I saw a fix another modeller did; he sliced the fin above the rudder, but not all the way to the front, then bent that up and fitted a pasticard wedge into the gap. Just needed a small bit of fillers and smoothing then.

Its not just how good your painting is, its how good the touch-ups are too.

Did they adapt the GR.1 kit?, does the GR.1 have the RWR?, haven't got any reference to hand so that might be it. Any way, will get a pic done today, I did compare them and there is a noticeable difference in height. Had a bit of trouble with the nose section fitting around the IP/tub but that might be me!!.

Hi, here are some pics of the two tails, the resin and the kit one. As I have glued the resin one onto the kit it is a little difficult to get them side by side. and so show the differences but I think one or two pics will let you see what I mean. The second and third pictures, while not lined up left to right, do show the height difference. The kit tail would be a mm or less slightly lower when added to the kit.

If no one had told you it was short would you have known? I won't be replacing mine, I'm 45 now and never lost any sleep over a short tail lol.

I make it a point not to carry out any kind of research before making a kit....after all, what manufacturer would make any errors in their toolings?

Nice work so far Mark!
Best wishes

Thanks Iggie. I admit I wouldn't have bothered myself really, but I was browsing Freightdog's site not long after I bought the Harrier and saw the tail. So I bought one thinking it was a massive error in the kit. Could have got away with it I suppose! I do tend to shy away from large replacement efforts unless a kit is seriously wrong as I think it's a little insult to the maker if you change half their kit!. If something isn't included and probably should be then fine but don't replace loads of a kit. And so on...

Getting along now. For the first time ever I have struggled to get into building a Harrier  . Not sure why but we are getting along now. Thought I had put the wrong nose on (there are two, one for the 1980 version and one for the 1982 Falklands one), so painted the underside grey for the 80's one. Now it seems I have put the Falklands nose on!. Oh well, wrap around camo back on the menu!!.
