I am going to build the NT Airfix GR.1 as XV741 which flew in the 1969 Daily Mail Transatlantic air Race.

Great choice. A friend of mine witnessed the take off at St.Pancrass station, one of his first memories I should think as he would only be about 4!

Do you have the correct decals?

The serials came out of my inkjet printer O_T, and an RN Phantom did indeed win the return leg Mark.

I remember a picture of the Harrier taking off from behind St Pancras, with the gas holders in the same shot. It always fascinated me to think of it blasting out of central London!
Best wishes

It's time to make a (very) late start, this kit is simple and the changes are minimal so this should be finished in time for the close of the GB. I began today by pre-painting the fuselage parts and then assembled them. I next cut away the wing tips and fitted the lower wing halves, I cut the ferry wing tips out of plastic card and fitted them to the wing, when the glue was dry I fitted the wing to the fuselage.

Nice start David, I like the ferry wing tips, you very rarely see them modelled.
