Martin's Zerstorer Pfeil *** finished! ***

A simple GB, convert one thing to another - any subject, any scale, any era, any method, but ending up with a different variant, than what the bits provide for in the box.
GB runs 16th April to 29th May and your host is Martin R.

Martin's Zerstorer Pfeil *** finished! ***

Post by Martin R »

I have vague plans to hack around a FROG Do335A-12 trainer/night fighter into a single seater with wing mounted 30mm cannon.

This will require a fair bit of deconstruction and assumes I can find appropriate bits for the cannon fairings. I did contemplate adding wing extensions too, but I think that's a step too far. We'll see how it goes . . .

Do you have all the necessary plans? I have got some for the Pfeil in the Aircraft Archive book, including cutaways

Hi PT

Ta. That'd be useful even if accuracy is not the main criterion for this build.

Here is the rather splendid box art:

And the sprues:

So, here are the fuselage halves. Just need to take off the fairing behind the rear cockpit, add a base, and build it back up to the proper profile. What could possibly go wrong?

Here are the transparencies. Not the clearest, actually:

So, apart from the surgery, I plan some light detailing, some trailing edge thinning, and a soupcon of rescribing. Of course, you know what they say about plans . . .

I also found some wheel halves in the spares box from an Italeri Me410, which exhibit better hub detail than the kit parts. Getting the undercarriage, wheel wells and cockpits up to scratch will be the main issues to address.

I always like to start a GB on the first day if I can, sort of as a declaration of intent. With that in mind, I got busy with the scriber, dymo tape and razor saw to get this show on the road.

Firstly, I scribed the top wing halves. 3 lines only each. My kind of scribing. I then thought I'd get the destruction out of the way. After all, if I mucked that up, there's no build. Anyhoo, enough of the rambling. Here's a comparison before and after:

And here's what the fuselage looks like now:

More tomorrow.

Not sure how much use that these will be, new(ish) scanner not being co-operative.

Hmmm, I said 'these' but only two would load. I can post photocopies to you if you want

PT

Many thanks. I think those will do nicely, so hold off sending photocopies. I do like the extended wingtips ....

It looks quite mean with only one cockpit.
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

Indeed! Not exactly a dogfighter, but it was heavily armed and went like stink.
