Marky's SC.9 ***FINISHED***

A simple GB, convert one thing to another - any subject, any scale, any era, any method, but ending up with a different variant, than what the bits provide for in the box.
GB runs 16th April to 29th May and your host is Martin R.

Marky's SC.9 ***FINISHED***

Post by MarkyM607 »

This is going to be the Shorts SC.9 which was based on the PR.9 version of the Canberra. It was used for something but I can't remember what!!!!. It will involve nose surgery to give it a pointy, warty nose!!.
(Airfix PR.9 and AlleyCat SC.9 conversion set).
Hoping to return to modelling sometime this year!!

There are four colour schemes in the kit although they are all of the same aircraft!!, it seems at various stages of it's life and in various locations. One of them is from RAF Wyton which is eight/nine miles from me so I will probably go with that one. The list is:-
XH132, RRE Pershore 1972 (silver scheme)
XH132 RRE Pershore 1970's (White and black scheme)
XH132 RAE RAF Wyton 1976 (Red/White/Blue scheme)
and
XH132 RRE RAF St.Mawgan 1985 (Hemp and grey scheme).
The Wyton one is probably my choice it's white top, blue undersides and wings and red engines/tail.

Going with the Red/White/Blue as it's from Wyton which is about eight miles from me. Started on the kit yesterday, only on the cockpit which has quite a few parts, although most of it won't be seen!. Have also made sure the lump of resin that is the new nose fits, required taking the lip where the glass nose fits off and sanding the nose back about a mm but it's looks good. The kit seems similar to their B(I).8, except for the wings. It stated that you should put 45grams in the nose/front of the B(I).8 although I could only fit 30. Still tipped on it's bum!. With this one the resin nose should sort that out, might still put some in.

Again not much to report (see Harrier GB)!. Cockpit is in and fuselage together, forward part of cockpit floor will have to be cut off but needed to fit it to see how much would protrude from the nose where the new resin nose will attach.

Thanks, I have plugged away at this, mainly attaching the new nose to the joined fuselage as that's the only real deviation from the instructions. That went on last night so should be standard building from now on!. Just realised that I have forgotten to put the nose wheel bay in!! , however there's more than enough room to get it positioned from underneath as there's no bomb-bay to fit with this version.

Finally some pics and progress. Not much changes from the kit with this conversion, as I said there are only five parts in the set, but the main one is the nose which I have fitted. The other two are the wing tip tanks, but they seem similar to the kit ones so I may stick with the kit ones for ease of application, and what I assume are wheel bay roofs but again I'm staying with the kit ones.

Despite the inexcusable lack of updates I have got somewhere with this. She is currently being painted red, white and blue but is still in three sections (fuselage and wings) so that masking was much, much easier!!. Will get some pics put up tonight or tomorrow.

Hi, just a quick pic to show progress so far and the fact that I am still in the GB!!

Image
The left wing is showing the underside which matches the underside colour of the fuselage. The right shows the same for the top wing/fuselage. Not much to do paint wise, just decals and undercarriage. Oh an attaching the wings!!.
