General Rocket builds a Porsche

No criticism from me. I'm enjoying watching this metamorphose.

Re: General Rocket builds a Porsche
Was worth getting the turret position correct as it's the most distinctive feature. It's great that the source kits are a different colour we can clearly see what came from where.

Re: General Rocket builds a Porsche
Thanks for your generous comments gentlemen.
It's the silly mistakes that irritate most, having converted the Elefant twice previously into Panzer 7's without making that mistake. For those not familiar with the evolution of the breed;
Following the cancellation of the project, the Tiger became the Bergepanzer Tiger.
The Bergepanzer was used as basis for the disappointing Ferdinand Tank killer.
The Ferdinand was redesigned to become the more successful Elefant.
The Elefant was used as the basis of the Panzer 7 series, though these never left the drawing board.

I agree with James the different colours makes it easier to follow what's going on.
I'm enjoying this build thread, as we don't often get to see such drastic surgery on AFV's that often.

My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

Re: General Rocket builds a Porsche
A quick update.
The road wheels are on, and lightly weathered.
The gun has been glued into place.
I decided that the build it yourself tracks where more trouble than they would be worth. So I raided the spares box, and found some tracks from one of the machines further down the evolutionary line. It's personal preference, but I really don't like the build it yourself tracks in this scale. I think it is too small. 1-35 yes, 1-72 no.
Please feel free to disagree.
A quick view of the turret. The dark is the undercoat, the light will be the finished colour. Purists will probably say that the chosen grey is far to light and would probably be right.
I take the view that such greys tend to fade fairly quickly under the bleaching effect of the sun, so go for the lighter shade, partly because it better matches those machines I have seen, and partly as it shows detail better. Once again, feel free to disagree.
And as JRatz says, "it's my model, and I'll do what I want with it".

Completely agree with you on the lighter shades, particularly in smaller scales.

Re: General Rocket builds a Porsche
The tracks have been painted.
Base coat was Black Grey with a touch of Black.
Next was a coat of Oily Steel, followed by a dry brushing of Dry Steel.
All of which where Model Color.
Revell Light Earth was diluted and washed over the outside of the tracks, and then more lightly over the inside.
I did photograph each stage of the process, but the differences didn't really show up on the pictures, so I only used the finished article. Which itself, unfortunately does not show the full effect.

So can I put a sticker on mine saying "My other tank is also a Porsche"?

The hull and turret now painted in the finished colours, and the tracks fitted.
Well that's how she stands at the moment.

Amazing how different that looks from the familiar Tiger. Must be that forward-sitting turret.

I don't know much about tanks. That must be why it looks reminiscent of a more angular T34 to me.
