Andrew's Kiwi Strikemaster
The venerable Matchbox kit:
This is the window box version we all remember
(if we are old...er... fellows )
Decals for RNZAF and Saudi aircraft. Matchbox were really good at putting some interesting decals in their kits.
They also had some quaint choices of colours for their plastic
The decals are not yellowed at all, so I stand a sporting chance of using them. I have some spare warning and ejector seat triangles which can jazz things up a bit.
When I bought the kit on eBay, I found that the horribly inaccurate double seat (part no. 2) was missing, so I got the Pavla seat set to replace it. The kit is a bit lacking in underwing stores, there are only some stacked rockets, no Matra pods as shown on the box artwork. As there are lots of pictures of these aircraft flown "clean", that's not a big deal.
Cheers
Andrew

Re: Andrew's Kiwi Strikemaster
Very cool choice Andrew and yes I do remember it. When I was a kid I built the Saudi version because the roundels looked so exotic.
IIRC this is a blitzable kit.

Re: Andrew's Kiwi Strikemaster
It's a very simple parts breakdown, so unless there are major fit issues, then I agree, it should be a quick build. I'm going to make a token effort on the interior, and at least put in an instrument panel!Old_Tonto wrote:Very cool choice Andrew and yes I do remember it. One nice thing about this aircraft is the wealth of pictures posted on the internet. New Zealanders like their aircraft!

I do like this aircraft. My late cousin in law used to fly Provosts and was at one time flight leader of the RAF display team the Macaws.
Enjoyment over accuracy. That's my motto

Its not just how good your painting is, its how good the touch-ups are too.

This is a great little kit with no real horrors, does need a chunk of nose weight however. The model can be improved greatly by adding the landing light to the nose. Also this can be made into an RAF JP5 quite easily. If you need any info on the JP/Strikemaster please don't hesitate to PM me.

Yes, I was looking at the landing light, doesn't seem like too big of a problem to add it. And I have a lot of lead weightsGregers wrote:This is a great little kit with no real horrors, does need a chunk of nose weight however. Re: Andrew's Kiwi Strikemaster
A gentle start. A bit of light grey primer in a few places.
The cockpit needs a floor, and the central console. The nose needs the lighting cluster adding. I have the IP from the Xtrakit Hunter, which is surprisingly plausible! The Pavla seats look nice and should distract the eye from the rest of the interior!
The undercarriage oleos are very unconvincing, and hinges need adding to the tailplane. There are also some little doofers to add to the fuselage spine. Some of the detail on the kit is raised. I may try rescribing. It's mostly straight lines, so should be easy enough.

I hate when you have to add your own doofers.

Maybe you be arrow is pointing at the wrong thing but the detail on the tailplane and rudder should be raised.AndrewR wrote:img]http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/h42 ... tratkt.jpg[/img]

Re: Andrew's Kiwi Strikemaster
Not stuck together yet, but this is roughly how the cockpit will look.
As expected, the resin seats dominate the interior.
The photoetch IP panel fits with the tiniest bit of trimming, and I need to add the joysticks.

Re: Andrew's Kiwi Strikemaster
Now the nose has the hole for the lighting cluster.
The primer is darker than the actual interior grey, so more bits will be visible after that coat.

By 'hinge' do you mean 'tab'.
I have a JP as my screen picture right now and I don't see a visible hinge on the elevator.
