That may prevent glue reaching it.
That's a good idea, might try it although I've also thought of a blu-tac shield. It has the disadvantage of leaving some stuck in glue (tried it once before). Still at least it wouldn't be visible!!.

A little bit of progress, green on yesterday, brown maybe on today..

Oh and there's not enough weight in her to stop tail sitting!! . I could have got a bit more in the engines and nose but it's too late now. Another job for the 'bit of rod under the tail'!!.

Does it need much extra weight?
I invested in a bottle of 'Liquid Gravity' for emergency times like this.
Al speling misteaks aer all mi own werk..
Its not just how good your painting is, its how good the touch-ups are too.

I'm not actually sure how much I put in, I didn't weight it out! . However the instructions say 4g in the nose and 2g each in the engines. I think I could have got twice as much in each of the three locations, I only filled them up about half each. Unfortunately it means I can't tell you if the instructions weight is enough, although going on past knowledge you usually have to put more than they say!. I would get as much in the nose and engines as possible next time.

Cut some blutac or lead into small pieces. Add them to the top of the engines and maybe into the cockpit [to me it looks like you haven't added the windscreen yet?] See how much it takes to balance it nose down. It may not need too much. If its only a small about could you drill a small hole in the nose underneath and underneath the engines and stuff the weight in and patch up afterwards?
Or just use a 'service' trestle under the rear end.....
Just some thoughts.

Thanks Fred, I'll give that a try, the windscreen is still to be added, unlike the doors which would have made it easier to add more weight! . Still, there is my now tried and tested 'bit of rod under the tail' method, I think I've mentioned before!

Thanks to Fredk reminding me of the blu-tac method, she no longer sits on her tail. Thanks Fred.

Unfortunately, a little while after this pic was taken this happened....

The nose wheel changed it's mind about being attached to the rest of the model!. . Never mind, will leave it off until all is done, as long as I put it somewhere safe!!.
Markings are going on, roundels are all hand painted apart from the Union Flag's which are cut down Vulcan XH558 flags.

Thanks!, the Vulcan decals were twice as big as needed so I had to try and cut them down while retaining the appearance of the flag. Just got away with all four being acceptable, although the N.I. part of the flag was a little out of place it seems to have managed.

Thanks, glad it cheered someone up :ha: , I have, after several decades of modelling, begun learning to leave such bits off until the end. Forgot this time as I wanted to see if I had enough weight in her. Oh well, live and re-learn!.

Not much done the last few days, have tidied up the markings, now for the serial which is BDF-01 in black, and the registration which is a UK one, G-BYJR in white!!. Luckily I have volunteers from the spares box that will do for this. I am using a Lighting (E.E.) detail sheet for this. I've had this sheet for two years or so and used it many times although I can't remember ever using it for actual English Electric Lightnings!!.

The registration I want is G-BJYR (or BYJR, keep forgetting), anyway, I would have to either adjust two letters twice (top and bottom of wing), or wait for replacements (on their way from Hannants). I've chosen the latter as the former means putting on decals and painting and that always looks like I have painted it!. Fingers crossed they get here by the end of the GB!!.

The decals from Hannants have arrived!. Got most of them on then had to go to work  . Anyway, more done tomorrow hopefully including putting the nose wheel back on, and making a new prop blade. The ones on the kit are so thin they deserve a VC for surviving this long!. Torpedoes have also arrived yesterday, courtesy of Iggie.
