Heading for the Huey

Post by chrism »

My annual build is now underway. Having given Daz some money and told him to again find something that he would like on the tables and which I would build and donate ... with the only stipulation being, it not be an aircraft - he returned with a load of my cash and a packet of 1/35 figures....

After a few discussions and thoughts on what to do, I then purchased a Huey and the basics of a setting came to mind....

So

Plenty of parts and options on the sprues:

Some interesting looking danish pastries possibly??

initial progress on the figures

and it soon became clear, that with the interlocking-ness of the arms, I had got to build this as a single piece:

The Huey is coming along OK. It is certainly a product of its age, and fits where it touches; but having build a fair few Airfix old tool seakings I am used to a tad of filler

So after a tad of sanding and swearing at it, it is now at this stage:

I will be building and working on this project along with a fair few boats, and when I need to set them aside, to let things set or harden I shall dip back to this project for a bit over the next few months.

Nice work so far Chris, will be interesting to see the outcome of this!

I just love seeing what people build and watching the ideas turn into reality all for the biggest model show in the world!

Guess I ought to give an update on this project.

The huey got to this stage back around New Year eve time:

and it is remaining at this stage until I finalise a scene and work out exactly how it is all going to combine together.

The figures however have been a tad challenging. They have been assembled, part painted and then soaked off and are now coming together again.

Second time around I am a lot happier with them, and they look better to the eye than the macro zoom in camera. I have got some of the baggage added and them all joined up as a group.

Still a lot of touch up and painting still to do, but it is coming along and has not been forgot or abandoned.

Those figures are superb Chris! It's always great to see a Vietnam subject being built!
