By the way you can vote for 3 themes as we aim to have 3 themes running.

You may be better having a general Cold War display this year and pick a theme for next year as it gives plenty of time from the membership to source models and build for the theme.

In previous years, we would chose the following years theme before SMW.

That's what happens when you do not respond to the paperwork by the deadline.

Personally I think it is far too late to organize a display at this late stage.

A decision should have been made months ago as to what theme, if indeed there was an agreement on one, and who was doing what.

Rather than attempt to get space (as there is a very real possibility at this late stage you won't get any) and then get stressed about how and who can provide for a rushed display, I recommend that this year the SIG take a year out and start planning now for a comeback next year.

As it happens, this year I will be there on the Saturday only and will not be bringing any models due to traveling down in someone else's car and may not be staying all day.

SMW is not like local shows where the planning can be left to the last minute.

You need to plan months ahead and make absolutely sure that the paperwork is in on time.

If Adam can no longer manage on his own, the whole SIG will need to take a good look at what we can do for future events.

I am not suggesting for one moment that Adam step down as SIG leader.

Some other SIG's have one person as leader, and someone else to deal with other aspects i.e. paperwork and display organizing. Project Cancelled is one such SIG.

This may well be something worth looking into for next year.
Chris.

You might be able to get a bit of space from a cancellation, as it was reported on the IPMS site that a couple of sigs were pulling out, for assorted circumstances etc etc, and I think I have still seen one of them listed on the printed splurge that has gone up this weekend.

That said, the information which has been published, is stated as being correct at a date in September, so I do wonder why it has taken a month or the thick end of something like 28 days for it to get shared.

If you can then secure say a small pitch of just 6ft, instead of the standard 12ft, you could just have a small presence and utilise just anything that meets sig criteria of being cold war stuff, rather than a "campaign, or combat type theme"

My boxes are already packed with the models Adam wanted me to bring. It will be a shame if they can't be shown :frown:

Mine too, and with room for another if it's finished in time.

Who is the SIG deputy leader? when I filled in the paperwork upon taking over the CBK SIG, I seem to recall that I had to nominate a deputy as a contact/liaison point for the IPMS in eventualities such as this.

Whatever, I don't think there's any point in playing a blame game. Personally I think Adam is more than competent to run the SIG and I'm sure he would sooner be fit and well as opposed to the health problems that he has had to endure during the course of the year.

If someone can organise a last minute table and there are volunteers to run it I will cram in some models, which would include a trio each of aircraft and vehicles.

No blame cast from this direction Shaun. I guess it has been an oversight - not being familiar with IPMS procedures. If something can be done for this year, great! If not then let's learn by this year's experience, have a chat with some IPMS guys at Telford to make next year a success

I've emailed the IPMS for some clarification. I'll post the response on this thread. Hopefully sooner rather than later.
