Sorry for posting but I did notice it was the 65th birthday of NATO this year - April the 4th.

Hi Guys. Sorry for the late replies. WAY too much serious real world stuff going on at the moment. Please feel free to suggest themes here. I had a couple of ideas like 'First strike' and 'cold war, the first five years'.
Open to other ideas though.

All the best.

Greg

Not a member, so feel free to ignore, but an interesting angle might be "Surrogate wars" - Korea, Africa, Arab-Israel. The Cold War turns hot, that kind of thing.

Nice to see you back Gregg and I hope the real world clears up for you mate :).
Heres one of my ideas:
As we maybe entering the second stage of the Cold War does this mean that the Typhoon and Tornado are Cold War Aircraft now?
If so my idea would be Current "2nd generation" Cold War Aircraft in "1st generation" markings?
Just an Idea, I dont like the fact we maybe in the second Cold War, I wish to keep my views to my self and I was only trying to suggest a theme or a sub-theme for the SIG. :)

Arab-Israel conflicts actually falls just outside the SIG's original scope as there is an Israeli Defense Forces SIG and at one time there was talk of an Arab Air Forces SIG.

The same applies to the Falklands and Gulf conflicts as there is a Gulf War and South Atlantic SIG.

These rulings were put in place by the IPMS(UK) due to the large nature of the SIG's field of vision, so to speak.

We can do the vehicles/aircraft etc. , but we can not have any themes related to Arab-Israeli, Gulf or Falklands.

Strange as we can actually cover things like Vietnam, Cuba and the African conflicts.

The dates the Cold War SIG has to work between are March 5 1946 (Churchill's ''Iron Curtain'' speech) and December 25 1991 - the day that US President George H. W. Bush received a phone call from Boris Yeltsin acknowledging the end of the Cold War. It is also the same day Mikhail Gorbachev resigned as President of the USSR and the hammer and sickle is lowered for the last time over the Kremlin.

Tornado aircraft is perfectly acceptable, but Eurofighter Typhoon is too late I'm afraid.

I had considered building a diorama of a Typhoon escorting a Blackjack at one point with the caption "we're back" .

That actually sounds really cool!
Guys and Gals I need to ask you all a question!
I have built and painted a 1/72 Airfix Tornado GR.4A in special 617 colours.
It is dedicated to my Nan as it was the last kit she bought me before she passed and I was just wondering if I could bring it along to the Telford Show in memory of her?
Here is a pic of the model:

Or maybe we could have a sub theme of "Cold War aircraft in commemorative colours"?
Thanks for taking the time to answer a fellow friends question :).
