Re: Historical References
A useful series of books on individual ships or classes are by Neil McCart at FAN Publications -I have 8 of these on subjects such as HMS Illustrious; HMS Hermes; Tiger, Lion and Blake; and HMS Glory. Check out their website here:

Another useful resource is Navybooks.com, publishers of the famous (and ever shrinking...) British Warships and Auxiliaries:

Re: Historical References
There is a very useful discussion on the tricky subject of WWI Battleship Grey on Ship Models forum here:
http://www.shipmodels.info/mws_forum/vi ... 9&t=154630;
It was just fortuitous that the original poster was also building HMS Canada.

Re: Historical References
I have a book which contains pictures of each class of ship in the Royal Navies during WW1. Also there is a section on paint mixes and the evolution of camo schemes.

Re: Historical References
For HMS Hood, the Hood Association is the best source on the internet. It includes kit reviews and corrections to improve the kits.
This page also discusses some of the colour schemes of major RN warships after WW1 and into early WWII.
