And one more deck added before domestic chores started.
Three more sections to go. One of them has lots of cut-outs for deck fittings!

It's nice to move this on. The wooden deck was easier to fit than I expected. Unfortunately I think the decks are going to take a bit of fettling to sit correctly though!PaulBradley wrote:Looking good, Andrew.

The main decks are all installed.
There was one nerve wracking bit where a couple of moulded on cable reels didn’t have corresponding cut outs in the veneer. A little surgery was needed.

A few more bits added to the superstructure, but they are spread over five different sprues, so it's slow going just finding the pieces!
My father-in-law produced a colourised picture of the Hood from the 1930s. Excellent!

Re: The Mighty Hood in 1931
I hit a couple of snags today. The fit of the rear deck walls is not the best.
Sanding on one side, and filling and sanding on the other side was needed. A respray will be needed.
I have assembled the secondary armament on the sprues, and most of the other superstructure parts are now painted. The turrets have been primed. They will be fiddly to paint.

The poor fit of the superstructure there is a bit of a bind. That colourised photo of the ship is excellent, what great lines she had.

Right, there will have to be more extensive paintwork than first thought.
The second deck does not sit nicely on top of the superstructure.
Much filing and fettling was needed to get to this point. I gave it a paint spray, but I have a feeling more filling will be needed.

Re: The Mighty Hood in 1931
Do the wooden parts effect the fit of the plastic parts or is it just a bad fitting kit?
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.
Re: The Mighty Hood in 1931
They do 2 kits, this and a later fit. That one went together lemon squeazy easy wheezy .. But. .. I didn't use wood deck on it. Trumpy kits are generally a good fit oob
Weird what can have gone awry but the veneer deck should not be an issue

The wooden deck could easily make a difference.splash wrote:Do the wooden parts effect the fit of the plastic parts or is it just a bad fitting kit?

I'm sure you'll get around this Andrew. It's a great looking model and the decks really do add to it.

It's had another coat of paint today, so I should be able to mount the secondary armament and then put the deck on tomorrow.Dazzled wrote:I'm sure you'll get around this Andrew. It's a great looking model and the decks really do add to it.
