That's a cunning plan you have there.
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

I agree, that is great sounding idea regarding the water lining of the hull. Hope it works!
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Re: HMS Tiger, Frog 1/415
Before waterlining the hull, I needed to strengthen it by adding the deck:
Then, it was patience-testing time with the razor saw, but, eventually:
Turned out pretty well and mostly even - the waves of the diorama base will cover the small inconsistencies...
The stern is incorrectly shaped - it should be squared off, not rounded, above the waterline. What it was:
I cut plasticard formers to start the re-shaping process:
Then infilled with putty:
It is currently at the fill and sand stage. While I wait for it to dry, I've been working on some of the smaller bits and bobs, such as the turrets and funnels.
One final pic today - just for kicks and giggles, here's the model mocked-up:

Excellent, very deft use of the razor saw there Paul and a nice bit of re-shaping going on around the stern.
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Re: HMS Tiger, Frog 1/415
Cheers, Shaun!
My word, this PE is tiny and fiddly....! Spent a good few hours making up the masts:
Next up - I need to spray on a primer coat to everything I've done so far. Then I can start painting and assembling.

Wow that PE looks great.

Those masts look nice but I fear they are very small and annoyingly fiddly to sort out?

Cheers Alan and Chris. My goodness, yes - they are very small and very annoying! But I did just get them primed. More photos later.

Those PE constructions look great, Paul! Are you soldering the joins or relying on CA..?
Please critique my posts honestly i.e. say what you think so I can learn and improve...

Cheers, guys! I'm working up the courage to tackle the various ladders now.....
Just CA, Simon - I never could get on with a soldering iron!

Excellent work with the PE Paul and the material makes such a difference to masts, radar arrays and such like in ship builds, giving much better finesse than plastic mouldings could hope to achieve IMHO.
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

I'm kinda glad my effort only has PE guardrails and similar
(Although I do have the full WEM sets for Illustrious and Daring..... )

Thanks, guys!
Certainly does - the kit parts were SO crude! In fact, the latticework of the main mast was a transfer!!ShaunW wrote:...the material makes such a difference to masts, radar arrays and such like in ship builds, giving much better finesse than plastic mouldings could hope to achieve IMHO.

Re: HMS Tiger, Frog 1/415
I'd suggest tackling some of the simpler assemblies first, to get the hang of it. This ship is my trial run for the Trafalgar Class destroyer that will be coming to Telford, and for which I have just purchased the brand new PE set from Peter at Atlantic Models!iggie wrote:(Although I do have the full WEM sets for Illustrious and Daring..... )
