A little more done. As Chris said the flight deck and hull seemed to resist glueing in small places but it's good enough for me now. I haven't attached the lower hull/keel as you have to fit the propeller shafts and I don't fancy turning an entire carrier over to fit them!! :lol:

That's a kit, that up to now, I had no interest in building, but the more I see you and Chris work your magic the more attractive it becomes.

Looks impressive. Don't think I have room for 1/350 scale warships though!

It is interesting to watch your approach to this, as I am painting as I go whilst you are assembling and glueing everything and not yet painting. Guess you will be masking off loads soon....

Coming along in leaps and bounds!

And interesting to watch the two differing approaches to this kit in this GB......both are going to be stunners I suspect
Best wishes

Thanks everyone, she is a big kit now that things are coming together. I know I am going about this a different way to Chris but I seem to have developed a 'build it then paint it' protocol over the many years of modelling. I did plan to finish and paint the island/superstructure but got over eager and glued it on once complete!!. I know this is probably 'not the way to do things' but it seems to be mine for better or worse! :grin:
Andrew, I don't really have room either! :lol: , but I have a new shelving unit I bodged together so it just has room for Lusty!.
Anyway, I haven't tackled the hull problem Chris has, either mine isn't as bad or I haven't noticed it enough to be worried about it! :grin: . I don't have any other 350 scale ships so I might fix on the lower hull eventually, no fleet to accompany her apart from 350 scale submarines which are all full hull.

Looking good Mark and it's interesting to compare your approach to Chris's.

I'm thinking the upper hull/superstructure is too dark a grey, the instructions say Humbrol 123 but the model looks very dark to me. Should I repaint her?.

splash wrote:I checked my "The Battleship HMS Warspite" book and guess what it shows 3 view colour drawings of her in all her different colours but the only one without a colour description is 1915 :shock:

Looking at the other pictures it looks like light grey on all sides with wooden main deck and stern deck with dark grey on all first level decks with light grey on the decks above.

I think I need to do more research before I start painting mine.

Some of the upper decks might have been corticene - a brown non-slip material. Used where the weight of a wooden deck was too great. Hood has some bridge decks finished like that.

Here are the color call-outs by White Ensign for the Queen Elizabeth around 1918. They tend to be spot on for Royal Navy subjects and you (unlike me in the States) can actually get the paints directly from Sovereign Hobbies.

Vertical surfaces—#1 Grey (GW 01);

Funnel caps—Black (C 02);

Steel decks—#4 Grey (GW 04);

Wood decks—Teak (C 01);

Bridge decks—Corticene (RN 24)

Underwater Hull—RN Antifouling Red (RN 19).

You can also use the HMS Dreadnought as a guide as well.
HMS Dreadnought

1906-12 and WW1: Overall #2 Grey (Colourcoats GW 02)

1913: Overall #3 Grey (Colourcoats GW 03)

Wood decks: natural teck (Colourcoats C 01)
Steel decks: #4 Grey (Colourcoats GW 04)
Underwater hull: RN Antifouling Red (Colourcoats RN 19
Anchor cables: white (Colourcoats C 03)

No apparent boot-topping.

I would say the safe bet for any battleship serving with the Grand Fleet during WWI is #2 Grey for verticle surfaces. It's what I used for Lord Nelson, Canada, Queen Mary, and Lion.

No 'Add image' function at the moment, like others. I have painted the sides of the ship Hu127, the deck Hu64 and am waiting for these to fully dry before applying another coat.

Okay, it worked for these three pics but now it's gone again. Sigh. Anyway, the pics I've put on show the air wing in place, the deck and hull are painted as is the lower hull but I can't get a pic of this on.
