To be fare the photo was taken when I picked up the bike from the shop, when I ride it's shorts and t-shirt but I thought that might be too much for you,MarkyM607 wrote:He cycles in a shirt, class act all the way!!.
Good news I went back to the cycle shop today and they didn't quibble, they apologised for the blow out and gave me a new inner tube at no cost.
So how lucky am I, a great little cycle shop with excellent customer service 1/2 mile from my house in a small Somerset village.
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

As I also want to make a model of HMS Falmouth some time in the future, I have bought some resin to copy the aft superstructure and masts so I don't have to scratch build it all again.

Martock was my guess, but South Petherton ain't far off as you say!splash wrote:No I'm in South Petherton but not far from Martock or Montacute if that's what you were guessing?iggie wrote:That Somerset village wouldn't begin with an M would it by any chance?
My folks used to live in Hurst Bow House at the end of Water Street in Martock; if you went straight on instead of hard left over the bridge on your way to Bower Hinton, you'd end up in their lounge . I scaffolded both their house, and the one next door when they moved there back in 1998 I think. Hurst Bow House was previously owned by a Retired FAA Pilot, whose name escapes me at present, Roy something beginning with M I think
Best wishes

Re: Splash goes from Torquay to Plymouth
I picked up some Composi Mold from my local HobbyCraft shop, to give it a try.
It says on the tub it can be used over and over again and can be heated in a microwave oven, to test it I used my modified 1/500 scale 4.5in turret by sticking it in plasticene in the bottom of a plastic container, then heating the Composi Mold until it turned into a liquid and just poured it over the turret.
I was pleasantly surprised that after only half an hour in the fridge the mold had set and gave no problems releasing the turret. A quick go with the Rhino Resin and I have a second turret with quite good detail. The whole process took less than an hour.
After that success I re melted the Composi and had a go at copying the rear superstructure.

Thanks for that great little tutorial, Splash, haven't seen those materials down here but will do a search for them...really like the idea of reusable molding material...
Please critique my posts honestly i.e. say what you think so I can learn and improve...

I think it's a great solution for one off molds, it was not cheap £30 for a 480ml tub, but it's quick and clean.SJPONeill wrote:Thanks for that great little tutorial, Splash, haven't seen those materials down here but will do a search for them...really like the idea of reusable molding material...
Here is the result of the rear superstructure and I must confess I'm really happy with how it turned out.

Re: Splash goes from Torquay to Plymouth
Thanks. I haven't seen that mould material yet but the idea of being able to pour it appeals. The stuff I use now is reusable but has to be pushed onto the master.
Did it need a mould release agent on the master?
