Andrew's FAA Corsair **Finished**
I'm building the old Hasegawa F4U -1D kit, as a Fleet Air Arm Corsair IV.
I also found some nice True Details resin wheels lurking in the AM goodie box
So, other than clipping the wings FAA style, it will be done from the box. Decals will come from an Eaglecals set:
I'm doing the 1842 NAS aircraft in the centre. There is a good picture of it landing on USS Shangri-la the day before it was written off in a landing accident.
The aircraft is in a pretty worn overall blue finish, but it looks as if the British Pacific Fleet markings were painted over existing ones. They may have sprayed over the old roundels with a different colour. I'm going to work on this assumption and go with EDSG for the overspray colour.

Thanks!Barry wrote:Loved your racer up in the Previously Built gallery
From the Draw Decal range. They do some nice decals for civil aircraft, including ex-military subjects. The fire-fighting Huey Cobra is very tempting...

Re: Andrew's FAA Corsair
I was up early, so did some painting on the sprues. I've also discovered that Corsair IV aircraft had an even shorter clipped wing than the Mk II. Once I get the wings together, I need to chop off 4.5 mm. Not that I can do that to a precision of 0.5 mm
As the cockpit is a bit sparse, I will add some instrument panel decals from the spares box. Authenticity? Nah!

Re: Andrew's FAA Corsair
First sprue. Interior green on the cockpit, dark grey primer on most other bits.
I even had time to add some decals to the IP and side consoles. Accuracy, schmacuracy
The other bits are still on the paint table

Re: Andrew's FAA Corsair
That took about an hour!
It wouldwould have been quicker if I hadn't clipped the wings!
This would be an easy blitz, if you went with the overall gloss sea blue scheme.

I probably need to get moving on mine really!

Best wishes

If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

Re: Andrew's FAA Corsair
It's just a well-fitting kit, with only a few parts. No vices found so far. Purists will probably complain about raised panel lines and the plain cockpit. Not meiggie wrote:That's fast progress!

Nor me. A nice honest kitb which goes well with the same company's Hellcat.AndrewR wrote:It's just a well-fitting kit, with only a few parts. No vices found so far. Purists will probably complain about raised panel lines and the plain cockpit. Not meiggie wrote:That's fast progress!

Looking forward to seeing what you do with it.

Mixtures of black and insignia blue applied
The fading effects looked good in the spray shop. Bit subdued in natural light.

Re: Andrew's FAA Corsair
Now adding the painted out roundels, using Dark Sea Grey as the base colour.
A few wing panels also got resprayed, particularly the fabric covered areas.
With a nice final result
I had to boost the brightness in these photos, so you can see the effect.
