I have a soft spot for the Nifty-fifties and decided to build two Corsairs in post-World War 2 markings. My first build is a Goodyear FG-1D Corsair flown out of NAS New Orleans in 1950 by VF-822. the Tamiya F-4U-1D in 1/72 scale will be used with marking by Wolfpak Decals. On a side note, this same schemes was used by VFA-204 on one of it's F/A-18A+ for the Centennial of Naval Aviation in 2011.

On second thoughts, let's not go to Camelot. It is a silly place!

Basic build has been completed and tomorrow, the canopy will be attached and the aircraft painted in overall glossy sea blue.
the Tamiya kit has a nice cockpit and both the early and and late canopies. Being a post-war reserve bird, the aircraft will have the late canopy that got rid of the canopy frame.

Hi Chuck,
The Tamiya F4U is a lovely kit and builds very nicely - as you are showing.

Martin

Thanks, it certainly went together much better than the Revell F4U-4B.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I humbly present my completed FG-1D Corsair. The only change I did was to take the orange reserve bands from the Revell of Germany F4U-4B and apply them to the FG-1D.

Nice one!
Best wishes
