VC winner's Corsair **Finished**

Post by fredk »

I got permission to do this one wayyyyyy back in March;

I forgot I was going to do one of my Corsairs in this.
I'm doing one on another forum and started the second kit at the same time.
So far I have painted the prop, scribed gills and redrilled the prop axle hole on the engine cowling.
If I stop there can I still build this one in the GB?

David.
Here is the box art;

This is how the parts are;

Prop painted, cowling scribed and a sprue pin in the engine hole

And the decals;

I have some photo-etch and resin parts to add to this.
The etch is for an Academy kit. I'll only be using a few parts; the seat, seat frame, seat belts, some contol panels and the i/p. Resin wheels with bulges.

I'll be trying to blitz this but as it'll be Glossy Sea Blue overall I think I can do it.
I'll make a proper start after lunch break.

Parts sorted, some cleaned up. Some ribbing into the top of the main wheel wells. I had to make new radiator fronts as they were badly moulded. The wing tops needed fettling to get them aligned to their bottom halves.
Adding some structure into the cockpit for the p/e to hang onto.

Should be able to get this mainly assembled by this evening.

Cockpit all done;

I drilled out angled holes and fitted three exhaust tubes into each;

All ready for painting. I added the forward aerial mast from a bit of aluminium wire;

Matt black undercoat over all.
Next will be fitting the canopy, with some fillers needed around it
Image

If the matt black dries and hardens quickly I can start on the GSB.

Nice! You're making a cracking job of the old rivet-fest.

It's not a biggie but I never think Airfix radial cowlings of the era (think B-17, Boston, Ju52) have enough rounding to the intake lip and consequently look a bit blunt. 5 minutes with a medium sanding stick and ...

So close, just another couple of hours.....
As midnight turned over I had all the decals on and had given them a soaking of MicroSol.
Just need to varnish them when they're dry and put on the aerial wires and it'll be finished.

Very sharp indeed, this kit may be old but it does scrub up well.
