Re: A Mustang Mk.1A with stripes
A concerted effort today. I got the second coat of grey on the top done, the disruptive green pattern, the yellow leading edges, some touching in, wheels and u/c doors on;
Whilst I've been getting these photos on to here a coat of gloss has been drying.
I may even get the decals on this evening.

Great work!
Best wishes

Re: A Mustang Mk.1A with stripes
All decaled up last night. Matt varnished this morning. The canopy framing done with decal strips.
Just a bit of touching in and a couple of details to add or correct and its done.
Glamour pics late tonight.

Re: A Mustang Mk.1A with stripes **Finished**
Thank you
Reading the other threads which have built this kit the other builders seemed to have a problem with the canopy. I didn't have any bother with mine at all. It fitted perfectly.
The only thing with it, which was carelessness of mine and not the kit part, the rear of the canopy slipped slightly to port as the glue was drying, this left a very slight step on each side, which I didn't notice till decal time.

Nice one!
Pardon my ignorance, but are the undercarriage clamshell doors meant to be up on the ground? I always assumed they should be down although, to be fair to myself, I never thought to check!

Re: A Mustang Mk.1A with stripes **Finished**
Yes they are meant to be up, as Gadfly corrected me, the early Mustang's doors were held by latches, on later ones the doors were held closed by hydraulics. When the hydraulic pressure bled off the u/c doors dropped open, slowly, and this hydraulic system also operated the flaps, so when the doors dropped so did the flaps.
You'll find in most photos of Mk 1/1A/III the doors closed, on IV, D, K the doors are open on ones left standing for a while, and often then the flaps are drooped as well.

Your's aint wrong.
I just prefer it this way, also it hides that the doors are the wrong shape for a Mk.1A

That is very tasty Fred, the combination of invasion stripes and those big cannon are irresistible, especially when so well done.

This is a cracker Fred. Despite what is leveled against the Italeri 'stang by way of criticism, when its done like yours, it rises above all that.
