Greg's Matchbox Spitfire

Post by Gregers »

Quite some time ago I was given an incomplete Matchbox Spitfire 22/24 kit at the Northern show. I've stored it in the stash with the idea of using it to try new techniques on it. Late last year a friend who works it RAF Valley said he had a scrap Matchbox spit that may be complete but he didn't know but it was unpainted but started, split apart again and in a very bad way (he wasn't kidding  ). I've inventoried both kits and I think I have all the parts needed between the two so if it's ok I'll build this one. All the parts I use will be either unused (like new) or need cleaning up/repairing where needed. Have I got the 'good to go' with this?

All the best.

Greg

Ooh, I hope so! Cleaning up a previously started kit can be quite time consuming so good luck with that!
I have the Revell rebox of this kit and am bemused by the engineering of the kit as far as the lower wing is concerned.
Good luck - looking forward to this one a lot (if you get the go ahead?!).

Cheers
Al.

I've got the 'good to go'. pics will be posted shortly. Cleaning up the glue marks and fingerprints on the wings doesn't worry me but getting rid of the tape residue may be a pain.

All the best.

Good news I look forward to watching the build.
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

Careful now, projects like this can get out of hand  :-D
I tried this with a pair of written off Meteors, and on close inspection I decided I had about 160% of the parts needed for one airplane. Instead of chucking 60% perfectly good airplane parts (would have been a terrible waste, really, can't do that), I ended up reproducing/restoring the remaining 40%, and building both. A wild, but interesting and satisfying ride..

This is great, the only time I've ever built this kit was as a rebuild as well, and I can't wait to see what you make of it.

If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

As promised here's a pic showing the centre section construction, as well as the now cleaned up fuselage halves. I had taken a pic of the sprues but I can't find it on the laptop. I'll post it up as and when I do.
