KB's FW190. ***FINISHED***
It's raining. I'm fed up. So let's build a plane, right now! This one, in fact:
The time is now:
so I'm off to prime those bits.

Re: Right here, right now. KB's FW190
Just to point out that I'm being a rotten little cheat and building the A-8 version which is one colour overall. Just to compensate I'll build it wheels-down and canopy open. Which reminds me I have a canopy to mask.

OK, so we're an hour in and the interior's coming up to being finished. Mrs Bailey promised me a nice cup of peppermint tea about half an hour ago, but so far it hasn't materialised.

Nice start!
Mrs Bailey is possibly deciding whether to let you drink said tea, or just pour it over you!

Spoke too soon about the tea!
This is, unbelievably, the first time I've ever built a FW190. It was the only Airfix Series one I never bought. It's actually a very nice aircraft and I'd like to build a bigger one - any suggestions?
Working on putting it all together now. Don't you just love moulded-on tailwheels? Why do they do this? As for the wings, I'm not sure how long that airspeed indicator is going to last but the guns might make it.
I'm giving it a bit of time to dry before the filler-fest starts.

Re: Right here, right now. KB's FW190
Best to avoid the Airfix 1/24th by all accounts....it has "issues"
The new tool Revell 1/32nd version has good reviews, and looks very very nice in the box

Great progress .

Right, the primer's on and just a bit more filling....don't you hate it when you think you've got it all?
I'm going to leave this for a while now, so as it's 7.30 and getting on for dinner time, why don't you join us? We're having lamb tagine.

First of all, you have to remember to turn the stove on. Heat up some olive oil in the tagine.
Slice up a big onion and put it in the oil. You now need to add the key ingredient: ras al hanout. It's a Moroccan spice, you can get it at Sainsbury's. There's no substitute. Just a teaspoonful will do, it's quite powerful. Stir it in, then put the lid on the tagine and walk away for ten minutes.

Re: Right here, right now. KB's FW190. Now with Lamb Tagine!
You now need about half a pint of vegetable stock, Swiss bouillon is great, a teaspoonful of cumin seeds and a couple of garlic cloves.
Crush the garlic and add everything to the onions, which should now look like this:
Leave the lid off the tagine and let it reduce for about 25 minutes. Go and check if your FW190 is dry.

Once your primer's dry........... no, wrong job.
Prep your vegetables; I've used celery, carrots, red pepper and little potatoes because that's what I've got.
Add some lamb, about 300 gms, to the stock and onions in the tagine.
Don't forget to give a lump to your very attentive audience:
Then pile up the vegetables over the lamb, put the lid back on the tagine, set the timer for 45 minutes and go back to building your plane.

Got a couple of coats of RLM 76 on; I've used Mr Hobby acrylic and to be honest I don't like it very much.
The tagine is now done and I've thrown in a handful of dried apricots for the last ten minutes of cooking.
We'll sit down to eat in a couple of minutes, then back to the FW.

Great progress Van with both the model and the meal. The moggie is very impressive also.
I picked up a vintage Revell 1/32 Fw190 D-9 at Telford last year for £10.00. When I got it home I found the front canopy piece missing but there was resin replacements for spinner and new wider prop blades and also cut out vacform wings for a Ta152 conversion - bargain! I can scratch build the canopy with plastic packing pieces cut to shape - will probably need several goes before I get the shape right. Tamiya 1/48th Fw.190 are supposed to be good but I've never built one myself.
Cheers
