Wasserfall Blitz **FINISHED**
Wasserfall Blitz **FINISHED**
Since the modelwife will be out flying, this will have to be a wussy blitz (2 12 hour build sessions) since I have to see to my two daughters during the build.
I will be building this kit.
It is the 72nd scale Brengun Wasserfall. It looks to be an ideal kit for a Blitz. Fairly new molding. No canopy of decals and very simple construction. Here are the instructions. The only downside is a two color Black and White paint scheme.
I generally don't have a ton of interest in WWII German stuff, the exception being the late war hi tech stuff. I've already got an Me-163, a V-1 and a V-2 in my finished collection. This should be a nice addition.
I'll either be using this pocket watch as a timer, with a DC-3 on its case, or one of these two clocks. Input welcome. Since I am a lone parent in charge of two kids, the adult beverages will be kept to a minimum, but one or two make make an appearance.
Wish me luck.

Pocket watch. Will be watching this one.

I like all the clocks but would go for the Pocket Watch.
Great subject, it looks ideal Blitz material (I suspect the original designers thought the same )

My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

Its not just how good your painting is, its how good the touch-ups are too.

Re: Wasserfall Blitz **Started 8/23 10.a.m. EDT**
OK, we're off.
Here is the set up.
The Brengun kit is of recent vintage, but it is slightly short run in appearance which means a bit more clean up. The big worry for me is making sure the body stays round. Also, there is not positive location pins for the fins, so I will have to be extra careful to make sure every think stays trued up.
For breakfast we have a hard boiled egg and a cuppa Earl Gray in my National Museum of Naval Aviation mug. If you've never been to the NMNA in Pensacola, FL, put it on your bucket list now. IMHO it is the best aviation museum out there.
By popular request, I am using the pocket watch. My goal for today is to have everlything built and primed so that tomorrow is all about painting.
For entertainment I'll be watching this:
I may have mentioned this before. Some guys like to listen to music, some watch movies. Some build in complete silence. For some reason, I am most productive when this particular sitcom is on in the background. I loved it when it was on, and then when it first went into reruns, my dad and I would sit down and watch it several times a day when it was running on USA network, back when cable TV first got going. I've seen every episode a hundred times, but for some reason it works great when I am modeling.
One of the keys for me in a Blitz is trying to minimize the cleanup I have to do. These sprue nippers have gone a great way in helping me eliminate a lot of extra clean up. I got them from Zueki Mueri (sp?) at the Nats a few years back and they are without a doubt the best I have ever used. They weren't cheap at $36 US, but IMHO they are well worth the money. They are available online.
Next update in a few hours.

Well, it is 12:23 and here is where we stand.
Seems to be coming along ok. Used superglue for filling some seams which I don't normally do, but speed is the key here. My goal on these builds is to try not to compromise too much on quality. I am happy if my blitz build ends up looking as good as any other build I do. Only a few hours in and I am already worrying about thew paint scheme. White and black can be a pain and the masking will take some time.
Well, off to lunch with my brother. Further updates to follow.

Any black or white decal?
It could be painted white overall then black applied by way of cut decal.
But if you don't have those then that idea is useless.

Good start.
I've heard of that sitcom but have never seen it. Wasn't the woman who played Roz Doyle in Fraiser in a few episodes?
