Re: Martin's Heinkel Heavy
Thank you, Rocket.
Some more progress tonight: joints are filled and tail fins are on. I had a look at undercarriage placement and decided the original arrangement didn't look silly, so that"s what we're going for. Legs are blu-taked in position at the mo.
Having decided on u/c leg placement, I have added the surplus door covers; also the crew entry hatch.
But the other news is that I've added a doubler to the fuse longeron along the upper edge of the bombbay a la Lancaster. This is to replicate the structural changes that the Heinkel engineers made to enable the carriage of very large bombs in the lengthened bay, getting rid of the large central rib. Also, to prevent any flexing of the model fuse, I've added some ties between the fuse halves below the bay roof and the bay central rib.
Next on the agenda is some more sanding, then a scoosh of primer to see where we're at.
Regards
Martin

Re: Martin's Heinkel Heavy
That's a stonking bomb bay; what bomb load was carried in your whif?
Best wishes
Jim

A stack of Herman Goerings, judging by the space in there.

Re: Martin's Heinkel Heavy
The He377 had a maximum bombload of 9 tonnes (20000lb). A more representative load was 6 tonnes, and it could carry it over a mission radius of ~1400km.

Insane, in a good way.

So, getting towards the end of this GB, I've broadly got as far as I wanted to be. I would like to get some primer on by the end of things.
The last couple of days, I have been doing a nunber of things. An aileron half is being bodged from plastic sheet and filler.
I have got the bomb bay doors on:
I have however found a bit of a problem. Look at the trailing edge angle between the two wing sections:
And here's the other side for comparison:
So, I had to do something about that:
See the filler on the far wing?
Also, note the spinners. They stand much too proud of the nacelle fronts, so I'll have to cut those down. They're also far too pointy for my taste, looking more like something from a '50s turboprop, so they'll be sanded down a bit.
