Wet Coast whiffery by gnomemeansgnome >> Finished <<

A Whiffery GB for any type of model. Simple decal changes, mild surgery or major. But all must have a story to back it up, no matter how silly or unbelievable.

Yeah, same here. The trick is to make sure it doesn't start looking too much like a ship before I start cutting Styrofoam and the sheet plastic base. The three turret arrangement would be the US assisted modernisation. The super structure for that just needs skinning to make it sit higher, while the tripod spotting top for its first version needs more work. I am making those components of the build interchangeable.

Futzing. To Futze. To randomly arrange items into a pleasing or practical formation.

How's that?

Ha ha! Yeah it is a bit much. But it could keep a squadron of dreadnoughts at bay for a while. Even re armed with 8" batteries it is still loaded for bear.

Ha ha! Sounds good enough. Thinking of rebranding my building page here and renaming it Futzenwaffenfabrikwerke von Gnomemeansgnome.

Messy fun with evil styrofoam, Not. Evergreen sheet cut very roughly to the profile of the fort shape, and the main decks.

Image

The styrofoam looks too rough for a reinforced concrete appearance, so I think I am going to have to have a go at it with some Spackle basted on it first before I glue and prime. The Evergreen fort base was had at with a rasp and coarse grit sandpaper to bevel down the edges so it will taper down properly on any surface as well as the one I want to display it on eventually.

The excitement here never stops........some gravel and rubble added at the base in places, and now for a 24 dry after being basted with filler; will see how that looks tomorrow or so, and sand and/or re-apply filler as needed before I prime the lot. The tripod mast and spotting top are taking shape from scraps and Evergreen dowelling, and the general profile of the later platform with AAA tubs and searchlights, etc is beginning to show itself. Onto brown primer after that.

Mixing and matching various assemblies, trying to figure out where they should really sit for each of the phases of operation. Still waiting for plaster to dry. I am having too much fun, and am thinking about building a larger and proper island after this.

Yes I think the resemblance was inevitable, except for the distinct lack of funnels or lifeboats, etc. Going to get down to the business of sanding it today, I think, and then see if any more filling is required before I prime it.

How do the occupants get on and off? How do they get supplies?
Would you need a jetty, or some sort of lift, like the ones some ancient monastaries have?
A lift would be more secure.
