Zen's PoAF F-80 >> Finished <<

A Whiffery GB for any type of model. Simple decal changes, mild surgery or major. But all must have a story to back it up, no matter how silly or unbelievable.
The GB runs from 15 Sep through 16 Oct, and your host is FredK.

Zen's PoAF F-80 >> Finished <<

Post by Zen »

So, for my first UAMF GB entry, i should use an Airfix kit, right?

Image

As the title says, this will be a Portuguese Air Force jet. The PoAF had the T-33 trainers but didn't have the P-80, so they say...

I've been a bit short of time for modelling lately but i should have this one going this weekend, it's a simple build so i'm hoping to get this finished quickly after the end of the month, when i'm getting a few days off work.

Sorry for the late reply, i've been a bit disconnected for the past week but i'm on it now, it's going to be a simple decal change so i should be able to get it done within the GB deadline... i hope...
I'm working on the cockpit now so i should have something to show tomorrow.

Beautiful thing, isn't it? 8-)

Well, time for a small update...
The kit was bought on ebay for 5 euros, but although it was described as complete, one of the intakes' splitter plates was missing so, instead of the cockpit, i had to begin work scratching up a splitter plate from scrap styrene.

Not perfect but it'll do...

Haven't done anything else but i'm finally getting a week off work starting tomorrow so, i should be able to get something done.

Nice work on the intake and instrument panel.
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

Thanks, guys! 8-)

Today i managed to give it a good push. For starters, i drilled out the guns...

Image

Then glued on the intake splitter plates...

Image

Image

That turned out ok, so i proceeded to glue the cockpit tub and front landing gear bay in place, put some weight on the nose with some Patafix and a bit of aluminum sheet folded several times and compressed with a good squeeze of the pliers.

Image

After a dry fit test, glued the fuselage halves together and this is how it's spending the night...

More tomorrow...

Nice work, the P-80 has a great shape to it like most early jets, much better than the modern grey pointy things.
