Zen's PoAF F-80 >> Finished <<
So, for my first UAMF GB entry, i should use an Airfix kit, right?
As the title says, this will be a Portuguese Air Force jet. The PoAF had the T-33 trainers but didn't have the P-80, so they say...
I've been a bit short of time for modelling lately but i should have this one going this weekend, it's a simple build so i'm hoping to get this finished quickly after the end of the month, when i'm getting a few days off work.

Did you get a chance to start this?

Its not just how good your painting is, its how good the touch-ups are too.

Sorry for the late reply, i've been a bit disconnected for the past week but i'm on it now, it's going to be a simple decal change so i should be able to get it done within the GB deadline... i hope...fredk wrote:Did you get a chance to start this?
I'm working on the cockpit now so i should have something to show tomorrow.

Beautiful thing, isn't it?celt wrote:Love early jets,the P-80 in particular.
Well, time for a small update...
The kit was bought on ebay for 5 euros, but although it was described as complete, one of the intakes' splitter plates was missing so, instead of the cockpit, i had to begin work scratching up a splitter plate from scrap styrene.
Not perfect but it'll do...
Haven't done anything else but i'm finally getting a week off work starting tomorrow so, i should be able to get something done.

Great piece of scratch building that replacement splitter plate.

I'll have the whole afternoon free for modelling tomorrow, i hope i'm able to get it almost ready for primer.

Nice work on the intake and instrument panel.
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

The IP looks spot on
Best wishes

Re: Zen's PoAF F-80
Thanks, guys!
Today i managed to give it a good push. For starters, i drilled out the guns...
Then glued on the intake splitter plates...
That turned out ok, so i proceeded to glue the cockpit tub and front landing gear bay in place, put some weight on the nose with some Patafix and a bit of aluminum sheet folded several times and compressed with a good squeeze of the pliers.
After a dry fit test, glued the fuselage halves together and this is how it's spending the night...
More tomorrow...

Nice work, the P-80 has a great shape to it like most early jets, much better than the modern grey pointy things.

Agreed, Celt. The Shooting Star is an iconic design.
