It's my model and I'll do what I want with it.

Yes, Bristol, not Scottish Aviation!, it's one of the blister pack/card with instructions on the back type things. 1973 it says on the card. Pics later....jRatz wrote:? Airfix ? Bulldog ...

Here we go, pack/card pic.
Bit of work done. Pilot, seat, seat base and fuselage together. I've also attached this to the lower wing. I found something called 'Knit In Elastic' which seems good for rigging and is clear so hopefully can be painted. (It's in the pic at top.

That's the best stuff for rigging in my view!
Looking good!

Progress so far. Not a great picture but it shows where we are. Only really the undercarriage and rigging to do(!!). Holes are pre-drilled for the latter.

Re: marky's Bulldog
Hi,
I am in the process of starting my build of the Bulldog, with the cockpit fitted it seems to me that the pilot is too low when compared to photos. My PJ Productions pilot is the same size at that supplied by airfix so I think he will need a cushion to sit on! :-)

Re: marky's Bulldog
Yes, he doesn't seem to be that high up, but he seems snug so I'll leave him be!!. I did have a little problem getting the cabane/center strus to reach, it's only a matter of a hairs width but it's there. Plus the top wing slopes back a little, have to check whether it should or not!.

Re: marky's Bulldog
The two wings; top and bottom, should be parallel with no noticeable angle towards the front or rear.
If the cabane struts do not reach it is often that the model wing is too flat; a gentle bending to give the wings more dihedral usually fixes the problem.
The pilot sits lower than you think, his shoulder level should be below the cockpit edge - which should be about chin/nape level.

Al speling misteaks aer all mi own werk..
Its not just how good your painting is, its how good the touch-ups are too.

Re: marky's Bulldog
Fred,
I commented based upon a couple of photos of K-1085 which, almost certainly were taken on the same sortie; the pilot is sitting 'tall' and his shoulders are a couple of inches above the coming sides. Having said that, another photo of an un serial numbered Bulldog has the pilot as per your comment.
From an aviators perspective, with the way the fuselage rises from nose to cockpit, a pilot sat such that his shoulders were within the cockpit would find his forward field of view too restrictive. Just a thought, certainly don't want to hi-jack this thread. We should, I think, accept that pilots come in different heights and have individual interpretations of how they wish to position themselves.

Re: marky's Bulldog
Anyway,
Getting back to the model. The comment about the dihedral has come at a perfect moment. I was going to stick the 3 parts of the upper together, not sure if that would be the right thing to do? I do have some great drawings that I can use to get the angle of dihedral correct - but did Airfix???
When I thinned the outer struts component that cements into the upper wings, I did so from the inside so the length of the struts was unaffected., doesn't leave much material for the 'bracing wire' to stick into though!

Re: marky's Bulldog
My top wing is definitely not level and slopes backwards. The rigging is all in place so I may leave it as is!.

Re: marky's Bulldog
What exactly do you mean by 'sloping backwards'? Do you mean it has a greater angle of attack compared to the bottom wing?
