OK, back from vacation and I can get into this.
One of my themes is the aircraft of the Chinese airforce (CNAC) used in the Sino-Japanes war of the 1930s (and extending into WW2). I used to pore over my brother's copy of Air Warfare as a kid and for some reason, this page always jumped out at me (I managed to claim the book eventually so now it's in my library ).
I am gradually building everything on that page, plus a few other CNAC here and there, including the Airfix new tool Flying Tigers Hawk.
My GB entry is the Curtiss Model 68 Hawk III (why did Curtiss have to call EVERY aircraft they ever built "Hawk"?...) by Special Hobby in the scheme shown on the above page (2503), which is one of the decal options.
If I get time (unlikely, but you never know) I may start on the Dewoitine D.510 as part of this GB too.
Sort-of sprue shot...
The bulkhead behind the seat had come adrift somewhere so I built a new one.

Oh, good - the Hawks were beautiful ... well at least until the retracts made them look pregnant.

It's my model and I'll do what I want with it.

Yeah - pregnant tummies look great on mums....not so much on fighter aircraft...jRatz wrote:Oh, good - the Hawks were beautiful ... well at least until the retracts made them look pregnant.
This one is definitely a low point on the aesthetics spectrum. Keeps things interesting though.
Not much more to report for the moment. Probably a few days before I can put time into it again.

It looks a nice kit, as SpecialHobby boxings tend to be; do you get any resin parts as well as the PE & styrene?
Best wishes
Jim
If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

Its not just how good your painting is, its how good the touch-ups are too.

Yes, the engine is resin. Very nice moulding.iggie wrote:It looks a nice kit, as SpecialHobby boxings tend to be; do you get any resin parts as well as the PE & styrene?
I closed up the fuselage today but it will be a while before I can post pics as my phone line has died so I can't go online with the laptop - only occasionally with the phone when there's free WiFi about.

Re: VV's CNAC Curtiss Hawk III
Sorry, people, I am calling an early DNF on this. I have my church weekend away this weekend so no opportunity to do anything and it has been workmageddon for 2 weeks straight and will remain so for at least another week with most evening hours required for work time to meet deadlines.
I hate DNFs, but I need to face facts. It's not realistic to get this done in time.
