A totally Heinkel He-111P-2 in 1/72 from Chuck *Finished*

Post by Chuck Finley »

For my third build, I decided to pull out the new mold He-111P-2 by Airfix in 1/72. As this was the last version of the He-111 to enter Luftwaffe service prior to World War 2 and to make it something one does not see every day, I will be using aftermarket decals from Xtradecals and a cockpit zoom set from Eduard to bring out a Heinkel in pre-war tri-color.

Heinkel He-111 P-2 '23+E33' of 3./KG 255, based at Menninggen in August 1939.

I finished the pre-painting over the weekend and begun the initial build. Interior detail is pretty good and I am enhancing it with an Eduard 'zoom' set. Unlike the Lancaster B.II, Airfix has made the Heinkel a fairly easy build.

Nice work, looking forward to seeing this through to completion as I have a couple in the stash to build! It looks great so far!
Best wishes

I don't think I've seen a 111-P in the three colour camo

PS; a wee typo in your description in your first post; check the date ;-)

Just finished the RLM 61/62/63/65 camo. As the RLM 61 Dunkelbraun is an Xtracolor paint, I figure it will take at least 24 hours before it loses it's tacky feel.

Well, the Germans were developing aircraft in the Soviet Union out of sight from the Allied inspectors after all. :P

If you haven't already, I highly recommend the Xtradecal sheet from Hannants. It has lots of interesting choices.

Painting is finished. Now, onward to gloss-coating the aircraft and adding decals.

Nice job with that Chuck, and it looks really good in the slightly unusual scheme!
Best wishes
