Chuck's build #4, Handley Page Heyford Mk.I in 1/72 *Finish*
I never buy a kit that I do not intend building eventually. While waiting for the Heinkel He-111P to finish drying and some eleven days remaining in October, I was looking over my stash and came across yet another gen that had been picked up at a model show some years gone by. I just put up some more shelves in my model room and I ran across a tin of pre-war NIVO paint from Xtracolor. The lightbulb appeared above my head and I thought "Why not build the Matchbox Heyford that has been sitting in the closet for 16 years?" Thus what might be my final build for October 2016, the Matchboc Handley Page Heyford in 1/72 scale! As HP Lovecraft once wrote "The Stars are Right!"
As the model has the parts for a Mark I, Mk. II, or Mk. III, for this build, I will be choosing a Heyford Mk.I flown by A Flight, 99 Squadron, RAF, 1934.

On second thoughts, let's not go to Camelot. It is a silly place!

Good choice! Looking forward to seeing this progress
Best wishes
Jim
If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

I built this a couple of years ago, really liked it and gained a liking for the Heyford itself. The kit is no too bad but it does have a five part wing (lower I think), and a four piece upper. Apart from that it's pretty good.
Hoping to return to modelling sometime this year!!

When I was an Air Cadet, back in the 60's we had an old gentleman as a 'Civilian Instructor' who used to man the lower gun position on Heyfords. At one time he was at Cranwell doing his wireless operators course, he came to my graduation at RAFC Cranwell in 1973, some of the buildings (wooden) that he remembered were still there. Looking forward to seeing this aircraft built - you've not long left though!

Shall be watching this build with interest. Had wanted this kit for ages and recently picked one up as a consignment kit from my LMS; got it cheap as it is missing the clear sprue and the decals. Just need to clear the workbench before I start it - it's a big kit!
Looking for some tips on how best to rig it!
Cheers

You will get lots of advice I am sure. I have just completed 2 interwar bi-planes, take a look at the rigging on them, see what you think.Springy67 wrote:Shall be watching this build with interest. Just finished pre-painting the interior and other parts. The build begins Wednesday after school. Considering that the aircraft is one color, NIVO, I have a feeling that the model will be finished by the end of October.

It should be a breeze compared to that Rodan He-111e I finished a couple years ago.

Chuck,
Not sure that your crew would have yellow life jackets, colour photos of early war LJs suggest they were more a canvass colour and yellow didn't appear until experience in rescue indicated the need.

To quote Sherlock Holmes, "The game is afoot!". Basic build is finished, Nivo has been added and waiting for it to dry. As the NIVO paint is from an Xtracolor tin that I picked up before Royal Mail cracked down on paint shipments, it will take at least 24 hours to dry. I will try to have her finished before midnight, October 31. If not, the kit will be gracing my shelf before the end of the week.

I took your advice, did a little more through research and repainted the life jackets khaki. The Vallejo color seems to be a good match for the one in the color photograph.

Nice looking bomber. Dumb question time, what is NIVO?
