Marky's Meteor 13 ***FINISHED***

Post by MarkyM607 »

I'm going in the loft in a minute, (Where the majority of my stash lives), to get the Matchbox Meteor NF kit. Although it may not be the best or whatever, it does allow the NF.11/12 and 14 to be made so several noses and canopies. I however plan to do a NF.13 of 39 Squadron based at Nicosia, Cyprus. It provided Air Defence services during the fighting. It seems it is a tropicalised 11 (or 12 or 14 I can't remember right now!! ), so minor changes needed. I also have the MDF book on the Meteor to go by.
Might also do something Egyptian!!.
Hoping to return to modelling sometime this year!!

Another great choice of build, and one that may even up the sides a little along with Bluesteel's mig-15 if you 'go Egyptian'!
Best wishes

If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

I can't decide!! :???: , I was going 39 Squadron but now I find Egypt had them so.................
I hope to do a Lancaster in EAF markings though. I have read conflicting info about whether they were in use or grounded but some were definitely destroyed by the FAA on the ground. One more dig at the RAF eh chaps?!! :ha: :ha:

(P.S. I've already done the Meteor NF.11 in Belgian Air Force markings so foreign users of UK stuff would be acceptable to my British Aircraft Project. Shows our stuff got around the world a bit!).

Progress so far was quite swift. nose and tail sections together, they are separate to allow the various versions to be built. Cockpit done, although it's fairly basic there is not a lot of 'opening' to see stuff through anyway.

It's not going Egyptian unfortunately, Bluesteel has been kind enough to supply me with 39 Squadron markings which was my original choice (donation made to poppy appeal Bluesteel).

Yes, just ordered (and received) another Xtrakit version so I can do the Mk.14. They're easy enough to build, not too many parts. Although....

One or two gaps to be filled in there!!. :-|
The nose cone is a little wider too, didn't check the two halves in a dry fit. Would take a bit of work to correct now so may leave it!.

That does look a little gappy! Still, we all need to do our bit to support the filler industry I suppose!
Keep up the good work!
Best wishes

Glad to follow this one as I have a few of these stashed and wondered about fit given the breakdown of the parts.

Thanks chaps. It is one of my more favoured kits despite the gappy-ness!. In truth it looks bad but it doesn't take too much effort to fix although it is annoying!.
Matchbox attempted to get three versions into one kit which is brave but it does mean two top 'decks' around the cockpit and three nose cones!. It perhaps excusable that there is a little bit of a gap here and there, by modern standards however.....!

Okay will do!!
Progress so far. Had to do quite a bit of scraping on the wing root rear so that the wing sat properly and fitted right in against the fuselage. Not too major a job but needed doing. The fuselage slot, or at least the surround on the right side had to be sanded too as the wing tilted up nearly as much as a GR.1 Harrier goes downwards!!. Getting along now, have to remember to add the two small air scoops as this is the tropicalized version. On the undercarriage now so not much to do.

Interesting view!

Good to see you are getting to grips with this; I recall building one a while back and having problems with getting the wings anywhere near level!
Best wishes
