Marky's Lancaster (EAF) ***FINISHED***

Post by MarkyM607 »

Although I have read conflicting accounts of whether the EAF Lancs were in use or just grounded, I am going to try and fit in a second build (!!!). This will be an Egyptian Air Force Lancaster, or as the FAA called them at the time: Targets!!. Topsides are medium grey and the rest is black. Make a change to paint a Lancaster black!!.
(Anyone got spare Egyptian markings, might have to make some otherwise!).
P.S. sorry for the abundance of exclamation marks!.
Hoping to return to modelling sometime this year!!

Grounded or otherwise, they existed and belonged to one of the belligerents so that's enough for inclusion in this GB.
A good choice and another interesting build to come methinks!
Best wishes

Good news and bad - the good (for me) is that I had assumed the Lancs wouldn't be allowed but now iggie has said yes, they can, so the bad news is that I must therefore shamelessly nick Marky's idea and use an old revell Lanc languishing in the stash and the Xtradecals Colourful Lancs decal set I have also had for yonks which includes the EAF option - sorry Marky!

P.S. That's the decal sheet I was going to get. Might have to now and change the number!!.
P.P.S This is a pic of the four candidates I found in my stash for the GB. Two UK and two Egyptian.
Image

Meteor NF.11/12/14-- to be done as a NF.13, either UK or Egypt.
Whirlwind HAS.22 -- to be done as a HAR version IIRC.
C-47 -- to be done as a civil DC-3 although only found two artworks for reference.
Lancaster-- Egyptian Air Force.

Probably won't get all four done within the GB but will try after it. Will definitely do the Meteor and the Lanc.

What a great selection! The Lanc scheme is rather smart.

Work has begun, bit slow as I always hate the start of this kit as it is the gun turrets. Something always makes me reluctant to get going on these???. Anyway, getting along, also bought the decal sheet for an Egyptian Lanc so no excuses now!.

Should be good. MSG over black will make it look very different.

Finally making progress. I seem to have mislaid the rear turrets guns, either they weren't there when I got the kit (off of eBay), or I've used them for something else!. Anyway, I've assembled the fuselage, with all three turrets, the rear one doesn't have the clear part on so I can work something out re the guns as I go.

Sorry about the blurry pic, the camera takes longer to take the pic depending on the light and I can't hold the camera still for those few seconds unless I want to stop breathing!.

pah - that's showing a right lack of commitment to the build - what's passing out due to lack of oxygen compared to getting a good pic for the GB - shame on you :-D

Looking good though - And the rear turrent isn't missing, it's been "removed for maintenance" :-)

I know, I know, a good photographer gets the shot, even at personal expense!! :ha:

Good idea about the rear turret, from what I've read the EAF Lanc's were grounded (at least some of them), so they might not be in 'complete' shape... Hmmm, worth thinking about there. While breathing obviously!! :ha: :ha:

Hi, sorry for the lack of updates. Will hopefully get some pics up tonight. Lanc is close to done as far as construction. Thought of modelling her in a 'under repair' situation with spinners missing and an engine cover removed but this might have to wait until after the GB (I plan on leaving an engine pod fitted but not glued to the wing if that's allowed?).
Suddenly worried myself that this finishes on the 4th!, but I was closer to the end of construction than I feared so okay for now!.

Good man Marky; and no worries about not glueing an engine pod into place!
Best wishes

Thanks Iggie. I'm sure you can get a merlin engine, I was hoping to put it into one of the engine pods at a later date to complete the 'under repair at the time of attack by the RN' scene!.
More progress and pics, only twelve hours later than promised.

The engine pods are being painted (or were last night), so should be good to go today.
