Re: 1/48 Hughes 500
I'm disappointed with this kit the part fit is good and the detail in the hard plastic is crisp with no flash but when you get to the transparencies what I first thought were air vents in the side windows turn out to be moulding marks where the mould removal pegs have left marks, as you can see this would be very time consuming and difficult to remove
My tactic now will be to through the kit together with no modifications and revert back to my original idea and build the Tamiya Wildcat

I'll have to look at my model. I don't recall any ejector marks on the transparencies.
Although, they do tend to fly quite a bit without the doors on. Maybe a little surgery to modify it????

Wow, ejector pins on the canopy that's a first! I would consider using them to plunge moulding some acetate replacements. You won't need to trim them precisely as the lip would hold them in place.

It's killed my mo-jo, I just don't have the enthusiasm to even try and fix it, so I need a fun build to restore my mo-jo, so I will start a new thread for a Martlet II.
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

Splash, be not hasty - those marks look too regular to be manufacturing stuff.
Use Google for Hughes 500 and look at the images -- you'll find that 3 "hole" pattern on the side windows in many of them.
See for example:

Well spotted I had jumped the gun, the Police version uses different glass as it has the bulging rear doors, so I will bring the kit back to the bench.jRatz wrote:Splash, be not hasty - those marks look too regular to be manufacturing stuff.

Re: 1/48 Hughes 500
Well spotted, John. You beat me to mentioning the "holes" on the door windows. I remember them from building the Nichimo 1/20th model years ago -- nice model, but IIRC the engine compartment was a bit bare, unlike the engine itself. Worst thing about the kit was the main transparency, which had somehow melted or not been moulded properly on one side. Not good for such a large and expensive kit.
Glad you're sticking with yours, splash.

Wow, that's an annoying thing for a kit manufacturer to do. When I see things like that I do wonder what those working for these companies are thinking?
