Its not just how good your painting is, its how good the touch-ups are too.

Re: Tri-Pacer
For a 1957 vintage kit, I thought the engine is really very nice.
The kit was designed to have opening cowl for engine compartment display. I'm closing it, though. Hence the reason I didn't work the seams over and just kinda made it.
I under-estimated the amount of nose weight that would be required when loading the forward cabin. So, I had to fill the forward cowl with lead. This means I'll have to cut out the lower engine supports to make it fit.
Slowly on it's way to finish.

Re: Tri-Pacer
Looking good, i'm enjoying this build very much,
I remember building this as a very young bloke about 1961 it was a relatively new kit here in Australia then and i remember being very exited with it having figures and mountain lion etc
We have quite a few restored versions flying here
Great to see this subject modelled here !!

Thank is really cool.Nikon Boy wrote:I remember building this as a very young bloke about 1961
I accidentally broke my friends one of these in the early sixties. Boy, did he cry! I remember the fear I felt thinking his mom was going to beat me.
Re: Tri-Pacer
I've managed to get her primed. I'm actually quite happy, and surprised, with the way it's turning out:
Biggest issue so far, is the dog hair.
I've toyed with the idea of just painting her yellow, for ease. I think not. Instead, I'll try the box-top scheme, and have a more accurate example of a really vintage kit.
The final paint is the only threat for a DNF. It's a difficult scheme with considerable masking.
That, and the fact my wife will be home from her holiday tomorrow.

Just testing. At least with a full 21g of weight in there, it won't sit on her tail.

Don't know how I overlooked this before. What a great job you're doing on that old kit.

Re: Tri-Pacer
I just used a rattle can of Krylon Ivory to top coat my model. Should probably be a little whiter in order to be correct; I'm happy enough, though.
I'm thinking there's a whole lot of masking in my near future, before I can start getting the red on.
Thanks for looking.

Re: Tri-Pacer
I think the ivory white will look brilliant with the red.
Pure white can be just stark and contrsty on a model kit

Re: Tri-Pacer
You probably can't see it, but, there is a lot of critical masking on the model. Took me a long time.
Now, it's up to the modelling gods. If I'm in their favor, all that mask will come off clean. Tomorrow.
