Splash's 1/48 Martlet II

Celebrating the man who flew 487 different aircraft, more than any other pilot, and who could be the greatest pilot of all time. We cannot duplicate his feat but each modeler will build a unique aircraft replicating one flown by Captain Brown.

Just a quick update, the main parts are now assembled and a coat of Sky type "S" has been applied to the lower surfaces.

Before I go any further is Sky the right colour for a Mk2 Martlet from 802 Squadron or should it be grey?

I'm using the RFA Coastal Command & RN FAA paint set from HATAKA & must say I'm impressed with the paint, it sprays well straight out of the pot and dries to a nice semi sheen.

Here we are with a base coat of Dark Slate Grey

I have added the extra dark sea grey, but feel that because the two colours are similar tones they need a sharper demarcation line so I'm going to try and sharpen them.

A quick hairy stick brush over has sharpened the lines and demonstrated these paints brush OK.

The next problem is, I can't find any suitable decals so I might have to paint the wing roundels :???:

Looks good. Can't see where you touched up the edges with a brush at all.

Really coming along. FAA colors are actually my favorite in camouflage.

I can't find any 1/48 scale decals so I've gone down the mask and spray route.

Looking very nice indeed Splash. I wish I'd seen this earlier as I'm sure I will have some appropriate decals.
I can still have a look if you want me to.

Good to hear your opinion of those Hataka paint too. I've seen a few of their sets and they look interesting. What do you clean your brushes with?

Cheers OT for the offer of decals, but I think I have it covered now.

As for brush cleaner I use "original Flash" kitchen cleaner that comes in a trigger type spray bottle and somethings can be found in Poundland.

That type of decals are certainly opaque enough. I like that.
