Commander Brown, Sea Hawk pilot ***FINISHED***
After much comparing of available base figure kits I'm going to use the Tamiya 1/16 Luftwaffe Ace with a spare face from a Mini Art French Musketeer. The Tamiya Wehrmacht tank commander would actually be a lot less work to convert, but I'll be basing the pose on the photo of Winkle that's on the DVD cover and the kit figure has only a right hand with the left one in a pocket, whereas in the photo Winkle has his right hand in the pocket. (OCD!)
I had previously ruled out the Luftwaffe ace as I had viewed the parts online and reckoned that the face was not great, in fact I thought it bore an uncanny resemblance to Barry from the Chuckle Brothers!
Anyhoo, I'm just off to my LMS to pick up the kit and some BRG paint for the MG.

Its not just how good your painting is, its how good the touch-ups are too.

Apart from the so-so face, the detail on this kit is really nice....so it's a shame that I had to shave most of it off!

Reshaping with Milliput, but retaining all Tamiyas nicely defined details like the tie and.....errr....that's it!

Re: Commander Brown, Sea Hawk pilot
Just shaving off most of the detailing and building up the flightsuit shape with Milliput and adding pockets, belt and epaulettes from masking tape. In the photo Winkle has something in the small pocket on the lower front of the suit, so I put a tiny bit of plastic shaving under the tape to make it look like something is in there.........didn't mean for it to look like a condom though!Kitaholic wrote:How? The 'Bone Dome' will probably be the 2nd most difficult bit ( after getting a decent facial resemblance from the heads I have in my body parts box) I have a 1/12 racing driver helmet that is just too big, so I tried using it as a mould to make a correct sized helmet of Milliput inside it and then pull the helmet halves apart......didn't work!

Re: Commander Brown, Sea Hawk pilot
Hopefully have this one done later tonight. I got a set of roughly 1/18 toy soldiers from Poundland and the oversized helmet provided the Bone dome once the toys head was cut out and some minor reshaping and painting done.

How much did the toy soldiers cost you
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.
