Lancfan's Captured A6M2 Zero ***Finished***
I will build this NT Airfix A6M2 kit to be finished as the Akutan Zero, the first captured Zero to be test flown by the US Navy.
The story behind the aircraft is here- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akutan_Zero;
Here are the usual Box and sprue shots.

Re: Lancfan's Captured A6M2 Zero
Work began by painting and assembling the cockpit parts, having painted the cockpit IP details for the Rufe model I found that I preferred this effect over the kit decal so I repeated that task here.

Re: Lancfan's Captured A6M2 Zero
The fuselage and wings were assembled next and set aside to dry.
The airframe was now completed, checking out the pictures of the full-size I realised that I had made a mistake- the guns and gunsight had been removed from the aircraft by the US Navy so these also had to be removed from the model before continuing, this done the next step was to paint and fit the engine and cowling.

Incidentally, I was checking out the other Zero kits in my stash, and the old Hasegawa A6M2 offering that I have includes this aircraft.

Which colour scheme Daren? as well as the IJN markings it wore when flown by Tadayoshi Koga it carried two schemes during it's time with the US Navy, silver with tail codes and grey and blue-grey without identity markings.

Interesting choice of scheme, looking good
Best wishes

If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

David - not sure exactly, but it's definitely Koga's aircraft.

The Hasegawa A6M3 Hamp waiting to follow this build also has a captured aircraft option.
