Daz's Samurai blitz! - 1st February, 00:00hrs! - **DONE**

Well, since I've not long finished reading his book, and I had one of these in the stash, it would be rude not to do this one:

I built one of these kits the other week, and I'm finding a new admiration for Hobby Boss kits. Haven't built one of their Spitfires, yet, though!

I just don't know enough about Zero's. Don't ever remember seeing a model of one with a pair of gun barrels poking out of each wing, like the box art shows. Google photos says it's true, though, so I learned something here already.

Late-model Zeros were fitted with one 13.2 mm (.51 in) Type 3 machine gun in each wing outboard of the cannon.

Haven't built one of their Spitfires, yet, though!

The kit is 1/72, it's been said the canopy is 1/48th!!! Only kidding but the Spitfire's canopy is a terrible fit.

Looking forward to seeing the Zero come together as I have one to do in British markings.

It won't, but I reckon I'll get the vast majority of it build before I go to bed!

So, the first thing to do is paint some of the bits before assembly:

And then, a few minutes later.....


I'll assemble some of the smaller bits while that lot dries.

Anyway, the engine is on. The guns are on. The cowlings are painted. The undercarriage legs are painted and assembled. The drop tank is assembled.


Can't really see it here, but I've managed to get a first coat of light grey paint on the belly already:

With another layer of paint done on the undersides, I made a start on the uppers:
