Shane's Greek Treat Buckeye. **DNF**

Post by shangos70 »

I have a stack of Matchbox kits in the stash, almost all of the small aircraft kits. I've built a large proportion of them before, and most are hanging on my son's bedroom ceiling.. I was never bothered about the ships or cars but did the odd tank to go with my soldiers when I was a nipper.
I fancy something new so at present I'm edging towards the Buckeye in Greek markings, I have one in a Revell boxing.

Nice one! Watching with interest.
Maybe it's the fat, stubby look of the aircraft, perhaps it's just the colors; I don't know, but I do like it.

Recovering from Man Flu and catching up on real work has delayed any work so far. I will get some primer on this next day or so. No extra detailing, and will stick a few pilots in to fill the cockpit.

I feel for you mate, just had a week off work with man-flu myself. The annoying thing is I'd already booked the leave and was intending to spend most of it modelling, including my Matchbox GB entries, but got nothing done whatsoever.

Looking forward to your build though, because I do like the Buckeye, to the extent that I've just got this one via eBay:

I've been after one forever and was always expecting to do the Greek scheme, but now I'm tempted by a nice blue/grey Aggressor type scheme that is shown on the painting plan.

Cheers
Al.

I'll take the free Flu jab next time Al. I had 3 days off, my first in 8 years. I do like the Buckeye, different enough to be interesting. I didn't realise they served as long as they did. There's a nice 48th one just popped up on Hyper****e today in Greek markings. Well tidy.

Nothing worth images to report. Main parts off the sprue and internals have had their first coat of paint. A kit of few parts, once the intakes and jet pipes are on the fuselage can be joined. There were a couple of large ejection marks that needed sorting that were visible in the main wheel bays. More primer is needed to cover up where i've fiddled with them. I'm searching through my decal stash to see if i've anything suitable for the side consoles.

Finally a few update shots. No great detail work. Basic painting of the cockpit for now. Some filler work along the fuselage seams and a big one under the fin. The wings are just dry fitted for now.

An interesting subject choice Shane and the kit seems to be going together OK. I always keep my eyes open for different fillers that members on here are using (which probably says a lot about either my modelling skills or the old banger kits that I usually make  ) and have spied that Liquid Green Stuff there on your bench. What's it like?

The wings have now been attached and the seams filled, I've had to sand the middle coaming down on both sides as the canopy won't sit correctly otherwise. It now means I'll have to repaint it.There is also a nice gap at the rear that will require filling. All the little bits , i.e wheels and associated dangly bits have been painted and put to one side. I just have the aircrew to finish painting and stick on the I.P decals then she can be buttoned up for priming.

All primed now and given a little polish. Canopy is masked. I.P decals to add later tonight. Hopefully will get some colour on it this week. May not make the deadline.
