No, the canopies were still masked when I dullcoated, which is why they still need their frames.
I found out a while back that masking right up to the edge of the frames before painting left a nice, sharp step once the tape came off. In that step, you could actually see the layers of paint, beginning with pale grey primer, and then the darker colours. The pale grey stood out like a sore thumb all around the tansparencies.
Until I come up with something better, I'll be shifting the tape edge onto the frames a bit, so that when, as one of the very last steps in the build I paint the frames by hand, I also cover that step and eliminate the grey line.
I should note that I never mask each individual section of the transparencies, just the outer rim of the clear area; frames inside that were always painted by hand. Easier (for me) to get it right by hand than through masking
Somehow, I did manage to cause a problem with a grubby canopy, despite my best efforts. The outside is perfectly clear on both of them, but on the camouflaged plane, there was some white residue under the tape, which was easily wiped off. Not so the similar residue on the inside. I can't get to the inside anymore I have some small hope that this residue is actually sanding dust that got carried into an inconvenient spot and was deposited when the water used for cleaning evaporated. If that is the case, I may be able to fix it by drilling a hole through the forward wheel well, and getting a new load of soapy water inside through that, in hopes of rincing the junk off and having it deposited in an out of sight location later. Not much to lose, so unless a better idea comes up, I'll try it.
