Another baby step -- rudders up.

Image

You might see some filler along the wing root -- there is a walkway decal that will cover it nicely.

After the above photo, I did a coat of Future on the parts shown so next step is decals.

I have fallen behind a bit ....

Not been much time recently, but decaling has started.

Image

Note the two different decal sets (same manufacturer) have color differences. I could have made all the stars the same from other sources but I want the rest of the decals in each particular scheme to match up - a lot easier to explain.

One of the don't paint the 2-color plastic idea is that the yellow is a bit translucent and dark stuff shows through thin areas. There's a slight problem with the tail struts and the stab (not visible in these pix) and another slight problem with the wing walks, for example.

I tried the new Hataka USN/USMC 'tween wars section color paint set but have been fighting with coverage on the red.

Onward ....

Rudder stripes and tail numbers are on. Two different sheets, rudder decals slightly different size -- one a tad too big, the other a tad too small. I may be able to avoid touch-up.

Next will be fuselage decaling. I am working the cowl rings, engine, wheels on the side.

Nothing happens Wednesday, then big push .... Will need the weekend.

Bad day for modeling yesterday.
Just minor work done, a setback.
Got to get fuselage decals on today.

Fighting me.

There's a reason why Matchbox has one build the two-part engine cowling around the assembled and installed engine.
There's a reason why I didn't want to do it that way.
We have spent much of today negotiating our differences.

As you can see, fuselage decals are on -- well not completely, the one on the left still needs stripes coming back from the nose but I must wait until I get the engine & cowl installed or at least placed so I get things lined up.

Image

Cowl decals are on, but the one on the left took a bit of damage. It'll be hidden for the GB and then I'll look at repairs before sending to SMW.

Meanwhile, I'm getting all the small parts and paint touch-up done -- the punch list gets smaller. Need to get the fuselage striping on the one yet, then a protective coat of Future, then I can move to putting on the upper wing and rigging.

Going to be busy ...

Those are starting to look more than a bit special. Very nice work John. Those look superb.

All the best.
