PK-32 Sabre by Crashpilot: ***Finished!*** Yippie
So here are the sprues, the canopy, the decals, and the boxart of the Sabre I´m building.
I´ll build the Korean version, the one on the boxart.
So by now I read the description how to post pics - so I try again:
So, now, finally:
The sprues, decals, of PK-32 F-86A Sabre:
canopy has typical MB-thickness, but shape and framing is quite good - A-Sabres have a different canopy
than later Sabres!
sorry for not having pics from the time I started the kit, this shows the state she´s in now, still needing some
sanding....

I love that kit a lot but wish it had wing tanks. Nice work so far.

Re: MB PK-32 Sabre in babyblue and grey from Crashpilot
Thank you!
Right now I´m struggling with the masking of the canopy. I took Vallejo´s Liquid mask for it, which is a good thing,
but, only after a minute of spreading it, it becomes so sticky that I lift off the masking again, when I hit the canopy again
with the brush, wanting to cover the bordering parts....
I think the only solution to this is: masking tape, or patience:
liquimasking as much area as possible, before it gets sticky, then to wait at least an hour, til the stickiness subsides,
then to cover the next area, wait again, and so on....
Elevators are on now, but they are one of the letdowns of the kit: waaay too thick, to make them look realistic, you could sand 1/2 of the material down!
well, I sanded about 1/3 off the plastic, now they fit more to the wings, plastic is a little brittle,
I didn´t want to risk a cracking, that´s why I stopped here...
(the very ends of the elev. have broken... )
The photo shows, what happens, when impatient people like me try their hands on plastic models!
Deep scratches in the plastic from using a rough file, to sand more quicker!
Well, I tried to even it a bit with sandpaper, but now it´s enough, I leave it as it´s seen in the pic.
tomorrow I hope it´s prime time

Re: MB PK-32 Sabre in babyblue and grey from Crashpilot
I´m building OOB mostly - but I couldn´t leave the jet pipe as it was, its walls had a strength of around 1 mm!
So I filed it thinner, but was a bit lazy, I filed the butt end of it mostly, so inside it´s more like a cone now:
next pic shows a look up the pipe, and the thinned out elevators:
oh, what´s the time? work calls

Coming along well. Those small improvements will be what makes your build unique.

The modified jet pipe looks good.
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

Re: MB PK-32 Sabre in babyblue and grey from Crashpilot
Time for an update:
Before I started priming, I discovered an ugly crevice between the wing halves which I didn´t want to leave like that:
(right corner of the pic)
then it was time to say goodbye to babyblue!
on with silver from the rattlecan - a cheap can from the DIY superstore:
it´s a thick, rough colour - but that makes it so suitable for polishing, to get different silver sheens!
I didn´t like that there are no panel lines to border the exhaust region, which I want to make look a little burnt,
so I´m going to carve some lines there:
Carving panel lines is not my strength, but today I finished that, now it´s about masking some panels, to make different sheens. Next update tomorrow

I'll be interested to see the polished surfaces; nice job so far!
Best wishes

Re: MB PK-32 Sabre in babyblue and grey from Crashpilot
time for an update:
not much left to do, she still must get her red nose, airbrakes...but now not far from decalling anymore
something that held me up a bit was that my tamiya tape lifted some of the paint&primer off:
maybe one reason for this happening: I used different brands for priming and paint, and "they don´t like each other"?
anyway, I´m warned now, and will not mask for the red stripe around the fuselage - I´ll look after a decal to put there instead!
I "repaired" the area, but it still looks patchy, so I´ll finish this plane looking like it´s on its final flight to the scrapyard..?
the polishing & darkening of some panels don´t really show on the next pic - using a flash might make it show more?

That's coming together really well Crash. Should look very cool with the decals on.
You don't see many early model Sabres about.

If the primer has lifted its most likely the there was dirt or grease on the plastic as the point of primer is that it is meant to bite into the surface.

Well, I washed the kit before priming, but maybe I forgot that very area?
The way it looks now is aw-rite with me
