Re: MB PK-32 Sabre in babyblue and grey from Crashpilot
So I put the air brakes on, but not fully extended, cause I dont want people to notice the structure-less walls of ´em..
..started decalling too, the original MB ones behave very well!
when you lift em off their paper, the backside with its lumpy looking sticker looks awful, but it becomes invisible,
when it dries:
for the red nose, I should have diluted the colour, now, with its thickness, looks like it has a cold
for the "pushrods" (not sure if that´s the right word?) of the brakes, I used some spares of a MB Panther,
parts of the undercarriage, since that´ll become "wheels-up", too:
still need to paint them, hope I´ll get into the gap with a brush.....
fuel vent added, too: looks a bit bulky, even more so, before doing some cutting & sanding
I don´t want to add the pitot, they break off so easily!
...and I found pics of Korean A-Sabres w/o pitot - but that don´t make much sense!
Retouched photos, maybe?
Hope I can add her to the gallery on the weekend!

I don't know about 'push rods' but would 'actuators' be the right word?..
Hoping to return to modelling sometime this year!!

Decals are finished now, still need to weather her a bit -
and the pilot demands to see something from out of his office
I guess I´ll use the last day of the GB for final touches, and putting her in the gallery.
this GB helps me a lot to finish building kits!
It really makes a difference, when there´s a virtual public that asks you about your progress on a kit!!

Sweet. Looking forward to seeing the finished build. I'll have to get me one of these but I fancy doing it in the Arizona NG colours.

Nice work Crash. Just one thing, it looks like you have put the nose door in back to front, I think that rib detail should be on the inside of the bay? I've never had one so I might be wrong.

Well observed! Thats right, the structure should be on the inside, but since the door follows the curvature of the belly, i was too lazy to scratchbuild one...or scraping off the structure of it.
It just adds to the "charme" of the kit...:-)
Got a second one in the stash, in the next build, I'd do
somethin about this.

I agree with OT it looks very smart.
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

Now just some varnish on, peeling off the mask from the glass, don´t know if the glass still needs polishing?...
...and then I call her done!

Re: MB PK-32 Sabre in babyblue and grey from Crashpilot
for varnish I used Humbrol´s acrylic satin varnish, and did 2 coats, after the second coat, some frosting happened, the silver looks more like light grey now!
I sprayed outside, maybe it´s still too cold to do that, today we have 10° C here in Northern Germany, which is quite warm for the season here!
On the second pic, you can see some frosting of the wing´s decals: on the black lines, f.e.
Well, it´s not too bad for me ( I wouldn´t call myself an over-ambitious modeller, I still have to learn sooo much!)), what frustrates me more, is that some frosting happened on the canopy, too.
Dunno why?
Vallejos liquid mask doesnt attack clear styrene?
Maybe some chemical reaction between the floor polisher I used for the canopy, AND the liquimask?
Anyone has an explanation?
See the pic here:
second pic shows frosting on some decals:
I´m curious about your opinions, what could have happened there?
Well, this will not stop me from finishing the Sabre today!

I've had similar with Humbrol rattle can varnish, so much so I won't use the stuff now
Best wishes

Re: MB PK-32 Sabre in babyblue and grey from Crashpilot
Good to know! What else do you use for varnishing, then?
I got some Tamiya semi gloss clear in a rattlecan, but it reads "do not spray on decals" on the cap!
Maybe better use some Vallejos satin varnish from the airbrush (good opportunity for practicing my airbrush skills,
which I´m a bit shy of using, yet)?
Thanks for any advise

Re: MB PK-32 Sabre in babyblue and grey from Crashpilot
I use Winsor & Newton Galeria varnishes; they are water based, and very easy to apply by brush (I've not tried airbrushing them yet but I cannot see why they won't) and come in Matt, Satin & Gloss. I'm not sure on availability in Germany, an artists' supplies store might help or have an equivalent?
Best wishes

Re: MB PK-32 Sabre in babyblue and grey from Crashpilot
Thanks, Iggie, for your advise!
Never heard of Winsor & Newton before, but I´ll look out for them now.
Here in my modelling club (we call it "Verein" in German), a lot of people use stuff from Vallejo, but since my experience with the canopy, I think I have to figure out a new way to deal with them canopies, next time around!
Anyway, the Sabre´s in the gallery now, the problems with the canopy show in the photos....
