Chuck's 'Beast' in 1/72 for build #2 *finished*

Post by Chuck Finley »

For my second build, I chose to do SB2C-1 Helldiver as flown by the first operational Helldiver squadron VB-17 in July 1943. Unfortunately, the aircraft was not ready for combat and the squadron suffered a number of mishaps while getting ready for combat. The fuselage had a weak spot near the gunners position and could break during landing. The problems were so bad that the Bunker Hill's captain, 'Jocko' Clark got rid of the Helldivers and replaced them with SBD Dauntless' for the carrier's initial deployment to the Pacific. It is the problem plagued initial version, I plan on building.

Build is complete and tri-color scheme added. Now, all that's left is touch-up, gloss coat, and decals.

Haven't forgotten, just little time for pictures and posting with school in session along with running the nifty fifties build and participating in the cargo haulers.

Really nice paint job! Those blurred demarcation lines usually get a bit uneven for me.

Nice one Chuck, it's good to see the beast finished. I agree, that is a very well done bit of freehand airbrushing.

That's a beauty. Very nice work. I have a couple of these in the stash and admittedly was tempted to build one of those for this build. Superb job mate.

All the best.

Looks good, I had forgotten about the odd code layout underneath.

Thanks. I do have to give credit to White Ensign for their colourcoat paint line. Mix 50% lacquer thinner and the paints are the best for airbrushing.
