Here's progress, white around the cabins and the upper hull, etc.

Image

I think next step is to work on the pilot house -- the forward structure -- as it will need less repair effort than the rear/cabins from when I had to un-warp them.

I am not convinced this isn't just a reasonable representation and not a scale model ... more as we go along.

As we move along from hull painting, I had to tape it down to the workstand -- don't have a long enough peg for it to sit on and the weight on the resin hull makes it want to go everywhere ...

Anyway, on to mounting the pilot house. I did waste some time by painting white on those pieces and the upper hull as I've had to use filler and today will be spent sanding it all smooth into a nice bow-ish shape. Is OK, there's paint that won't be disturbed.

I like your choice of colours for the hatches, deck & hull they look very workmanlike and gives the impression of the giant size of the original.
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

Hopefully you won't lose too much detail when you sand it back.
Did the pilot house need much straightening in the end?
Best wishes

No, the pilot house only needed the rear portion of the deck straightened -- the rear cabins were, and still are an issue.

There isn't much detail, some vaguely shaped windows and doors, raised unfortunately. The problem so far has been the big-U deck railing. It was a bit too close to the area I needed to sand and I inadvertently overly thinned it. I have a repair on, but if that doesn't work I'll just slice it off and just thin strip instead. That'll give me good practice for the rear cabins as I've already had the problem there.

Sorry, a couple lost days. Getting the pilot house faired in cleanly and starting to work on mounting the cabins. Pix this weekend.

As promised ....

The aft cabin structure is on. Before I do much, I need to brace that deck hanging out the back, I've broken it a couple times already. It is supposed to have little poles under it, which I'll add from whatever. Then I can set about cleaning up the join to the hull and fixing the front bulwark which broke off while straightening the thing early on ...

Once that is done, we just have painting and some small parts -- life boats and such and the railings.

That's really looking the part now John.
I have enough trouble with PE railings at 1/350, I'm not sure if I'd fancy them at any smaller scale!
Best wishes

OK, I should have made some sort of deck supports and put them on BEFORE I put the cabin structure on, because there is no way I'm going to get anything in there now :( Oh, well, maybe an idea will come to me while I'm fixing seams and bulwarks.

This may look like the last picture from 5 days ago ....

And it is, sorta. I did fix the upper bulwark on the cabin deck. I did figure a method to install the supports under the cabin rear deck, and was just about finished when my knife slipped and wiped most of them out. Enough! I'm moving on ....

Damages repaired, white paint on, time to get the pilothouse and cabin decks painted ....
